Hampton, Va. --

NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series at Langley Speedway

After a two-month hiatus, the B&C Seafood Modifieds return to action this Saturday, August 12, when Langley Speedway plays host to Dodge Night at the Races, the 15th program on the track’s 2006 NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series calendar.
Saturday’s lineup includes: Crossroads Fuel Service/Sunoco Dealers Late Models (75 laps); Super 8 Motels/Dunkum’s Machine Shop Grand Stocks (40 laps); E-Z Auto Rental UCARs (25 laps); and, B&C Seafood Modifieds (50 laps).
Gates open at 12 noon and practice gets under way at 1:30 p.m. The drivers meeting convenes at 4, followed by time trials at 4:15. Pre-race activities, highlighted by a demonstration of R/C vehicles from Hobbytown USA, begin at 6:30. The evening’s first feature contest goes green at 7.
Tickets are $10 for adults ($8 for active-duty or retired military members with ID) and $5 for children, 6-12. “Little Race Fans” (under 6) are admitted free when accompanied by an adult. Also, military members in uniform are admitted free. “Family Packs,” which include two adult and two children’s tickets, are $25 — a savings of $5. Skybox seats are $30 each. There is no charge for parking.

Langley Speedway’s weekly “test and tune” session is scheduled for Thursday, August 10. Pit gates open at 5 p.m. and practice runs until dark. Pit admission is $10 with a valid NASCAR, INEX or Langley Speedway license and $20 without a current competition license. There is no charge to watch practice rounds from the grandstands.
Summaries of Thursday evening practice sessions are available on the track's Web site, www.langley-speedway.com. In the menu on the homepage, click on "Results," then follow the appropriate links. Practice results are posted shortly after the end of each week's session.

Tying up a few loose ends from last Saturday, Alan Purser’s victory in the 20-lap HRKC Pro Winged Champ Kart feature was confirmed when tech inspections were completed on Sunday. Second-place finisher Gabe Sailsbury refused to submit his kart to an inspection and was disqualified. The karts of Ashley and Bill Mullis also came under HRKC inspectors’ scrutiny and passed muster.
The amended rundown is as follows: 1. Alan Purser; 2. Ashley Mullis; 3. Bill Mullis; 4. David Phelps; 5. Phillip Clarke; 6. Cory Millard; 7. Jeffrey Johnson; 8. Robert Peach; 9. Linwood Harris; 10. Steven Shaffer; 11. Rick Thomas; 12. Thomas Fontaine; 13. Greg Shaffer; 14. Dwain Smith; 15. Ryan Hudgens; 16. Mike Conley; DQ Gabe Sailsbury.

Langley Speedway’s ‘06 points season has been extended by one week for all divisions. Originally, the Super Streets, INEX Legends and Modifieds were due to finish up their title campaigns on Sept. 23, while the Late Models, Grand Stocks, Super Trucks, UCARs and Wolf Trucks were to wrap up on Sept. 30. Now, all eight divisions are slated to gather on Saturday, Oct. 7, for a big championship blowout.
• • •
Entering Saturday’s Late Model 75-lapper, Mark Wertz holds an 8-point lead over Danny Edwards in the series standings, 646-638. Greg Edwards ranks third with 630, followed by Jeff Shiflett and Casey Wyatt with 590 and 586, respectively.
It’s important to remember, though, that each Late Model driver’s two-worst outings (or missed races) will be dropped from consideration at the end of the season.
Looking at the “adjusted” rankings, as things stand right now, Wertz still maintains his place atop the rundown with 576 points. Meanwhile, Greg Edwards leapfrogs brother, Danny, for second place. Tossing out their two-worst finishes, Greg would have 562 points to 558 for Danny. Wyatt would move up to fourth with 548 and Shiflett would slip to fifth with 520.

After three straight caution-filled events, the Grand Stock division turned in a relatively tame performance in their last outing, on July 29. That race was slowed by “only” five yellow flags. Dean Shiflett leads Ricky Derrick by four points in the title chase, 350-346. Through eight races, those two have maintained a stranglehold on Victory Lane with Derrick taking five victories and Shiflett winning the other three events.
• • •
Saturday’s UCAR feature will mark the beginning of three consecutive weeks of action for the division. Randy Prillaman enjoys a 34-point lead over Robbie Davis in the current standings. Third-place Kevin Alves is 12 points behind Davis and has posted two wins and two runner-up finishes in the last four events.
• • •
Langley’s own Modified class will resume their campaign with this week’s 50-lapper. The division has been off since June 10. With a pair of second-place runs to his credit, Buddy Emory holds a 2-point lead over Shawn Balluzzo in the current rankings.
• • •
Langley Speedway’s “Extreme Sports Wednesday” program continues on August 16. The lineup features “1-on-1 Drags,” “Time Attacks” (solo runs against the clock) and a “Burnout Competition.”
Gates open at 5:30 p.m. and the fun gets under way at 7. Pit admission is $15 and general admission grandstand tickets are $8. Kids under 6 are admitted free to the grandstand when accompanied by an adult.

NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series action continues at Langley Speedway on Saturday, August 19, with SunTrust Night at the Races. The feature lineup includes: Late Models (a 100-lapper), NTELOS Wireless Super Streets, Verizon Super Trucks, Cook’s Moving Service INEX Legends and UCARs.
As part of the evening’s pre-race festivities, the Rev. Tom Potter, track chaplain, is leading a fundraising “Track-A-Thon” to support the Victory Junction Gang Camp. Participants will enlist sponsors, then join Rev. Potter for a two-lap stroll around the Speedway.
Event organizers will have a table near the main entrance this Saturday, so stop by and find out how you can become involved.

A longtime member of the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series, Langley Speedway is a .395-mile, slightly-banked oval. The track is located at 11 Dale Lemonds Dr., off North Armistead Ave., in Hampton, Va.
