Five Divisions Scheduled For Pepsi Family Night At Virginia Motor Speedway
Aug 8, 2006 - updated Aug 8th, 2006 9:43pm
Web posted by Dave Seay

Saluda, VA --

Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway will once again be the place to be this Saturday Night, August 12th as it hosts Pepsi Night featuring five divisions of door slamming, high octane, fast, family fun.

The point battles are heating up as the season is winding down. In the Victory Lap Late Models Jared Powell of Charlottesville, VA holds a 44-point advantage over Sommey Lacey of Clements, MD. The surprise of the season may just be the division’s top rookie, Walker Arthur of Forest, VA. Arthur currently sits third in points just 83 points back of Powell. Defending Champion Jamie Latham and Stevie Long round out the top five in division points.

In the Truckin Thunder Sportsman division it’s going to take a small miracle for the rest of the competitors to catch Donnie Owens of North, VA. Owens goes into this weekend’s action with a 103-point advantage over Daren Bolac of Virginia Beach, VA. Walker Arthur has dominated the division with eight wins, but a couple fo DQ's have ended his chances for the championship.

The Budweiser Modified division has the tightest points battle as Bret Hamilton of Powhatan, VA has a 14-point advantage over defending Champion Page Harrison of Jetersville, VA. Hamilton has scored 6 victories thus far in 2006 and is also in the hunt for the Thurston Spring Service Dirt Series Championship.

In the Al’s Auto Parts Charger division Mechanicsville, VA’s Davis Lipscombe holds a 27-point advantage over Bob Terry of Fredericksburg, VA. Lipscombe and Terry have been battling all year long for victories. Lipscombe has been the victor on seven occasions with Terry finishing a very close second in each of those victories. Keep and eye on this battle for the championship.

The Dixie Chopper All American division has Marty Coltrain of Richmond, VA atop the point standings with a 60-point advantage over Dustin Owens of North, VA. Owens holds the most victories with six, but a couple of DNF’s have hampered his bid for the championship. Coltrain on the other hand has been consistent with ten top five finishes in 10 events, one of those coming as a win.

Put on your calendars August 19th as the super late models are coming back to Virginia Motor Speedway for the 27th Annual US 100™. The MACS Super Late Model series will visit the speedway this time with a unique format. The 27th Annual USA 100™ will consist of two 25 lap $1000 to win events that will qualify you for the 50 lap, $10,000 to win feature. One driver could bring home $11,000 for his efforts.

---

Competitor gates for Saturday, August 12th will open at 3pm with spectator gates opening at 4pm. On track activities will begin at 6:15pm with hot laps. Divisions scheduled to race on Saturday: Victory Lap Late Models (35 Laps); Truckin Thunder Sportsman (30 laps); Budweiser Modified (25 Laps); Al’s Auto Parts Chargers (25 Laps) and the Dixie Chopper All Americans (15 Laps). Late Model, Sporstman, Modified and Charger divisions will run Hot Lap Time Trials and Features only. All Americans will run heats and feature.

Admission price for Adults $10, Seniors and Military $8; Students 13 – 17 years old $7, Children 7 – 12 years old $4 and Children 6 and under admitted free. The speedway offers a $2 discount coupon on the Speedway’s Website, good on any Adult, Senior and Military tickets only. Fans need to have a coupon for each ticket purchased. The speedway also offers a “Family Pack” that includes two adult admissions and two children 12 and under admissions for only $20.

Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway, an ASA Member Track affiliate, is a 1/2-mile, dirt oval. The track is located on U.S. Route 17, eight miles north of Saluda, VA and 25 miles south of Tappahannock, VA.
