Casey Wyatt Takes Win #5 at Langley Speedway
Aug 6, 2006 - updated Aug 6th, 2006 8:08pm
Web posted by Chrissy Wyatt-Ward

Hampton Virginia --

Race Date: August 5, 2006

Crossroads Fuel Service Late Models 75

Langley Speedway, Casey Wyatt started the day third fastest in the first practice. Relaying to his team that the car felt comfortable the team decide to skip the second round of practice and focused on qualifying. With more stagger than expected, the car was extremely loose and Wyatt felt like he was going to “hit the wall” several times. He held on for

a 4th place qualifying run. After the invert, he would start third.

Wyatt first took the lead by passing pole sitter (by invert) Jeff Shifflett on the outside on lap 3. Pressure from fellow competitor Mark Wertz wasn’t far behind though. Content to ride, Wyatt fell into 2nd place behind Wertz on lap 15. At lap 37, Wyatt and Wertz would race door to door Wyatt would pass Wertz on the outside to take the lead for another 7 laps before lap traffic came into play, allowing Wertz to slip by on the outside. Wertz would lead until lap 57.

During the caution, Wyatt shared his strategy with the team for passing Wertz on the restart and was feeling GREAT about his chances to win for the 5th time in 2006. His best laid plans couldn’t have played out any better, as Wyatt got a phenomenal start on the #40 Dodge of Mark Wertz. He drove under Wertz in turn one and completed the pass the next time around exiting turn 2. That would be the last time the lead would be exchanged. When the checkers flew for Wyatt, he would cross the line 2.283 seconds ahead of 2nd place Mark Wertz.

In Victory Lane, when questioned about his thoughts on the race; Wyatt complimented his fellow competitors and expressed his liking of the interim tires the Late Models are using. “It’s good to run side-by-side with somebody lap after lap and not get taken out. It says a lot for Mark Wertz and Shiflett and I really appreciate that, especially after last weekend (when an early-race tangle dropped him to the back of the pack). This is awesome. I love these tires. I wish we could race on these tires for the rest of the season. I think I’ve got a good handle for them. It really played into my hand. I kind of ‘guesstimated’ that this was gonna happen and threw a setup on the car that I thought would be good at the end of the race. It didn’t get good ‘til the last 15 laps, so it worked out perfect. The crew, I can’t say enough. We put a lot of work in, we had to change a motor out this week. We had dropped a cylinder last weekend. I would like to thank my engine builder Bob Shreeves for getting the engine back to us as quickly as he did.”

The Late Models will use these tires for one more week and then change back to the tire they began the season with, the weekend of August 19, 2006. Casey and Team 29 would like to thank their sponsors: Wyatt Homes Inc., Rica-Sha Hair and Tanning, George Brooks Law Offices, Bostic Electric, CBX Custom Modulars and their fans for their continued support. Casey Wyatt Racing t-shirts are available for purchase at Langley Speedway’s souvenir stand.

You can catch Casey Wyatt and his fellow competitors at Langley Speedway next week for another 75 laps of racing action. Gates open at 4pm and pre-race activities begin at 630pm.
