Update: Five feature events planned for Aug. 5 Thursday, August 3, 2006
Aug 3, 2006 - updated Aug 3rd, 2006 4:14pm
Web posted by Gary Daughtrey

Hampton, VA --

NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series at Langley Speedway

Five feature races are planned for this Saturday, August 5, as Langley Speedway continues its 2006 NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series schedule.
The lineup includes: Crossroads Fuel Service/Sunoco Dealers Late Models (75 laps); NTELOS Wireless Super Streets (50 laps); Cook’s Moving Service INEX Legends (25 laps); BBFlabradors.com Wolf Trucks (20 laps); and, HRKC Pro Winged Champ Karts (20 laps).
Gates open at 12 noon and practice gets under way at 1:30 p.m., while qualifying starts at 4. Pre-race activities begin at 6:30. The evening’s first feature race goes green at 7.
Tickets are $10 for adults ($8 for active-duty or retired military members with ID) and $5 for children, 6-12. “Little Race Fans” (under 6) are admitted free when accompanied by an adult. Also, military members in uniform are admitted free. “Family Packs,” which include two adult and two children’s tickets, are $25 — a savings of $5. Skybox seats are $30 each. There is no charge for parking.

Langley Speedway’s weekly “test and tune” session is scheduled for Thursday, August 3. Pit gates open at 5 p.m. and practice runs until dark. Pit admission is $10 with a valid NASCAR, INEX or Langley Speedway license and $20 without a current competition license. There is no charge to watch practice rounds from the grandstands.
Summaries of Thursday night practice sessions are available on the track's Web site, www.langley-speedway.com. In the menu on the homepage, click on "Results," then follow the appropriate links. Practice results are posted shortly after the end of each week's session.

It’ll be interesting to see what the Late Model division will do for an encore to last week’s feature event, which produced 11 lead changes among three drivers. In response to driver concerns, a different variety of Goodyear tire was used for the race — one with a greater circumference that offered more setup options via a wider range of available stagger adjustments.
• • •
Dale Parro will resume his quest for his first checkered flag of the season in Saturday’s Super Street 50-lapper. After beginning the year with two third-place outings, he has reeled off four straight runner-up finishes. He ranks second in the division standings, only four points behind leader Tommy Sweeney, 288-284.
• • •
Points leader Cameron Patrick will be shooting for his third straight Langley Speedway victory in Saturday’s INEX Legends race.
Patrick, along with several other local Legends drivers, has been filling his off weekends at Langley with trips over to South Boston Speedway.
In last Saturday’s race at SoBo, Patrick came home second, behind former national champ Craig Goess Jr. Rounding out the Langley contingent, Jeremy Cook, Brad Hancock, Sparky West and Toby Davis were fourth through seventh, respectively, while Matt Mullins was 11th.
In SoBo’s Legends standings, Cook and Patrick rank first and second, in that order, and Hancock is fifth.
• • •
Jill Brinson will be gunning for her sixth victory in as many races in this weekend’s Wolf Truck feature. She holds a 26-point lead over Brad Perron in the series standings, 250-224.
How dominant has Brinson been in the five Wolf Truck races to date? Consider this: So far this season, there have been 57 races that will count toward ‘06 division championships at Langley (13 Late Model, eight Grand Stock, six Super Street, eight Super Truck, six INEX Legends, nine UCAR, two Modified and five Wolf Truck). The combined margin of victory for those 57 races is just under 71 seconds. By herself, Brinson accounts for more than 23 seconds (almost one-third) of that total.
• • •
Enjoying a rare break from his busy schedule, Joe Moore, the lead play-by-play announcer for MRN Radio’s NASCAR Nextel Cup Series broadcasts, was on hand last Saturday for an evening of Langley-style short track racing.
• • •
Langley Speedway’s “Extreme Sports Wednesday” program continues on August 9. The lineup features “1-on-1 Drags,” “Time Attacks” (solo runs against the clock) and a “Burnout Competition.”
Gates open at 5:30 p.m. and the fun gets under way at 7. Pit admission is $15 and general admission grandstand tickets are $8. Kids under 6 are admitted free to the grandstand when accompanied by an adult.
• • •
NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series action continues at Langley Speedway on Saturday, August 12, with Dodge Night at the Races. That evening’s lineup includes: Late Models, Super 8 Motels/Dunkum’s Machine Shop Grand Stocks, E-Z Auto Rental UCARs and B&C Seafood Modifieds.
• • •
On Saturday, August 19, the Speedway will play host to SunTrust Night. A fundraising “Track-A-Thon” to support the Victory Junction Gang Camp, a favorite charity among those in the racing community, will be held as part of the evening’s festivities. Participants will enlist sponsors, then join the Rev. Tom Potter, track chaplain, for a two-lap stroll around the Speedway.
Event organizers will have a table near the main entrance this Saturday, so stop by and find out how you can become involved in this worthy endeavor.

A longtime member of the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series, Langley Speedway is a .395-mile, slightly-banked oval. The track is located at 11 Dale Lemonds Dr., off North Armistead Ave., in Hampton, Va.
