Drive For Diversity Program News
D4D Enjoys Another Successful Weekend
Aug 1, 2006 - updated Aug 1st, 2006 11:04am
Web posted by Jarian Kerekes

Charlotte --

JULY 31, 2006

Drivers in the Drive for Diversity program turned in another outstanding weekend of racing as they notched four top five finishes.

Sixteen-year-old Marc Davis of Joe Gibbs Racing drove the No. 92 Levi Strauss Signature Chevrolet to a first place finish at Hickory Motor Speedway, leading every lap in the Limited Late Model Division race. Davis continued his hot streak winning for the third straight week. He has won six times in 12 starts at the famed Hickory Motor Speedway.

Davis credits an excellent sponsor, an outstanding team owner and crew for the success he has enjoyed this season.

“I am very fortunate, Levi Straus Signature and Joe Gibbs Racing have been excellent to me and my crew is the best,” Davis said. ‘I am proud to be on their team.”

In addition to the demands of racing and going to high school, Davis already is a team owner and has started his own foundation to help children. He owns a late model truck touring team in Florida’s Fastkids Division driven by 15-year-old Jessica Green.

“Whether it’s creating driving opportunities for others or providing financial support to kids in need, I believe it is important we all do our part to help others,” Davis said.

Davis will take another run at the field in Hickory when the track returns to action on Saturday, August 12.

Several other Drive for Diversity drivers enjoyed successful weekends, including:

Allison Duncan: In a deep 30-car field at Motor Mile Speedway, Duncan took to the track in her Sunoco/Waste Management Chevrolet for the 12th time this season and finished 12th. She returns to action on August 19.

Mike Gallegos: Competed for the third time in 2006 in his Jackson Hewitt Chevrolet. Gallegos qualified third for the 100-lap feature race at Caraway Speedway and finished second.

Jesus Hernandez: Hernandez continued his hot streak, finishing fourth at Hickory Motor Speedway. That was his fourth straight top-five finish in the Waste Management Chevrolet.

Pete Hernandez: In his 15th start of the year at Stockton 99 Speedway, Hernandez piloted his Jackson-Hewitt/Sony Chevrolet to a second place finish. He is currently in the middle of a tight point’s championship with only a few races remaining. Hernandez returns to action Saturday, August 5.

Drive for Diversity also has crew members on teams in the NASCAR Busch Series and NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. Crew members for two NASCAR Busch Series teams were in action Saturday night at Gateway International Raceway.

Nicole Addison and Corey Hunter, crew members for PPC Racing finished ninth with the No. 22 Ford of Kenny Wallace. Chris Justice, Erin Carter, Jason Wong, Brandy Stimac and Mike Harris, crew members for Jay Robinson Racing didn’t fare as well, finishing 43rd with the No. 28 Chevrolet of Josh Richeson.

The NASCAR Busch Series and NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series return to action this weekend at O’Reilly Raceway Park at Indianapolis.

Drive for Diversity®

Drive for Diversity® is an ethnic and gender minority driver and crew member development program created and managed by Access Marketing & Communications, a Charlotte-based multicultural marketing firm founded in 2003 by The Radiate Group and Calhoun Enterprises. In 2006, the program will support eight drivers in the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series and 12 crew members in the NASCAR Busch Series and NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. Drive for Diversity® is an initial step in a long-term solution to diversify NASCAR’s participant and audience base. For more information, please visit www.drivefordiversity.com.
