Wyatt “Races” Back to 6th From the Rear on 7 Horses

Hampton, Va --

Race Date: July 29, 2006

Crossroads Fuel Service Late Models 75 presented by USG Langley Speedway, Hampton Virginia- The Crossroads Fuel Service Late Model division had a great challenge on their hands this week. Teams arriving at the track found that they would be racing on a new tire compound.

With the new tires Wyatt’s team would have to make numerous adjustments to the car. During the last practice Wyatt came to the attention of his team, letting them know that the motor had picked up a miss. Upon further inspection it was determined that Wyatt had broken a rocker arm nut. Unable to find all of the broken pieces, Wyatt conversed with his engine builder. His engine builder assured him that everything should be OK and to replace the broken nut. The repairs were tested during qualifying where Wyatt qualified 4th with a time of 17.059. The invert spin was a zero, so the field started straight up.

The first caution flag flew early in the race and Wyatt stated “If this car is what it is now, in the end….we have the car to win.” Very aware that he was on a different tire compound Wyatt chose to fall in behind the leaders and protect his tires. As the field was nearing the 30th lap, Wyatt was still in 4th with the cars of Danny Edwards, Greg Edwards and Mark Wertz in front of him, in that order. Wertz made a move to the inside of Greg Edwards for second place. While doing so, it allowed Wyatt to pull beside Edwards coming off of turn 2. Wyatt and Edwards would race door to door until Wyatt moved out front between turns 1 and 2. As Wyatt exited turn 2, there was contact between him and Edwards. Wyatt spun to the infield and had to go to the rear. Wyatt was upset, but was determined to make his way back to the front.

He passed 10 cars in 9 laps and by lap 57 he had come back through the field to the 6th position. But then tragedy struck again. Wyatt radioed to his crew while racing and told them something is wrong with his motor. The engine lost a cylinder with a little less than half the race to go. Car owner Wayne Wyatt made the call to watch the gauges and make the best of it. Wyatt would pull to the inside of the 5th place car three different times, only to relegated back to 6th by cautions.

After the race Wyatt said the race was his race to win. “I was just riding. We made some changes after qualifying and the car was perfect. I would have made it to the lead if I hadn't lost a cylinder. As for Greg spinning me out, I don't know why he has to drive like that. That's 2 week in a row he has just spun drivers out rather then trying to race them. I feel I race everyone clean and want to be raced the same way.”

Wyatt would like to thank his crew for their efforts, not only in repairing the motor, but giving him a car that was capable of winning. Team 29 looks forward to this coming weeks race. He feels that he and his team have a good handle on the new tire at Langley.

Casey and Team 29 would like to thank their sponsors: Wyatt Homes Inc., Rica-Sha Hair and Tanning, George Brooks Law Offices, Bostic Electric & CBX Custom Modulars for their continued support. Get your Casey Wyatt Racing t-shirt at Langley Speedway at the souvenir stand.
