100-Lap Late Model event tops USG Night card on 7/29

NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series at Langley Speedway

Update: Action to resume with USG Night on July 29 Wednesday, July 26, 2006

After last weekend’s unexpected break, Langley Speedway resumes its 2006 NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series schedule this Saturday, July 29, with USG Night at the Races.
Saturday’s feature lineup includes: Crossroads Fuel Service/Sunoco Dealers Late Models (100 laps); Super 8 Motels/Dunkum’s Machine Shop Grand Stocks (40 laps); Verizon Super Trucks (25 laps); E-Z Auto Rental UCARs (25 laps); and, the Pro 6 Series (25 laps).
Also, the Virginia Chevy Lovers will be on hand for a car display and a parade lap.
Gates open at 12 noon and practice gets under way at 1:30 p.m. Time trials start at 4. Pre-race activities, highlighted by the Pro 6 event, begin at 6:30. The Super Trucks lead off the rest of the evening’s program at 7.
Tickets are $10 for adults ($8 for active-duty or retired military members with ID) and $5 for children, 6-12. “Little Race Fans” (under 6) are admitted free when accompanied by an adult. Also, military members in uniform are admitted free. “Family Packs,” which include two adult and two children’s tickets, are $25 — a savings of $5. Skybox seats are $30 each. There is no charge for parking.

Langley Speedway’s weekly “test and tune” session is scheduled for Thursday, July 27. Pit gates open at 4 p.m. and practice runs from 5 ‘til dark. Pit admission is $10 with a valid NASCAR, INEX or Langley Speedway license and $20 without a current competition license. There is no charge to watch practice rounds from the grandstands.
Summaries of Thursday night practice sessions are available on the track's Web site, www.langley-speedway.com. In the menu on the homepage, click on "Results," then follow the appropriate links. Practice results are posted shortly after the end of each week's session.
• • •
Saturday’s Late Model feature will be the fourth of six 100-lappers on the division’s ‘06 schedule. Casey Wyatt has won two of the first three extended-distance events, while Mark Wertz claimed victory in the other one.
• • •
After a total of 14 caution flags in the first four races, the Grand Stock division has hit a rough patch in its last three events. With each of those races being slowed by eight yellow flags, officials have had to resort to scoring caution laps in an attempt to keep the show moving along. Due to late caution flags with caution laps counting, all three races have gone into “overtime” — running past the scheduled 40-lap distance — to provide fans with a “green-white-checkered” finish.
• • •
Carl Livingston will be shooting for his fifth straight victory in Saturday’s Super Truck race. Justin Ballo may have something to say about the outcome, however. Ballo has tailed Livingston to the checkers in each of the last four events. In the division’s last race, on July 15, he hounded Livingston all the way to Turn 2 of the final lap before Livingston eked out a 0.297-second victory.
• • •
Points leader Randy Prillaman will go for his sixth win in this week’s UCAR feature. Kevin Alves has scored two wins and a runner-up finish in the last three races, though, and should be in the hunt again on Saturday. In the July 15 event, he passed both Prillaman and Glenn Healy Jr. off Turn 4 on the last circuit to move from third to first at the checkers. His margin of victory was a scant 0.037-second.
• • •
Saturday’s Pro 6 race will mark the series’ second Langley appearance of the season. In the May 27 event, Casey Sipe took the win with a pole-to-checkers run.
• • •
Langley Speedway’s “Extreme Sports Wednesday” program resumes on August 2. The lineup features “1-on-1 Drags,” “Time Attacks” (solo runs against the clock) and a “Burnout Competition.”
Gates open at 5:30 p.m. and the fun gets under way at 7. Pit admission is $15 and general admission grandstand tickets are $8. Kids under 6 are admitted free to the grandstand when accompanied by an adult.
• • •
NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series action continues at Langley Speedway on Saturday, August 5. That evening’s lineup includes: Late Models, NTELOS Wireless Super Streets, Cook’s Moving Service INEX Legends, BBFlabradors.com Wolf Trucks and HRKC Pro Winged Champ Karts.

A longtime member of the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series, Langley Speedway is a .395-mile, slightly-banked oval. The track is located at 11 Dale Lemonds Dr., off North Armistead Ave., in Hampton, Va.
