Langley Speedway, Hampton Virginia- After a disappointing showing last weekend, due to a failed coil, Casey Wyatt was focused on returning to his winning ways. The team worked all week to make sure their Monte Carlo was in top shape for this week’s race. Wyatt would qualify 4th with a time of 16.798. Pole qualifier, Greg Edwards spun the wheel to invert the top 6. This would give him a more desirable starting position of 3rd.
Wyatt would run in third for the first 33 laps. At that time, he passed the Ford Fusion driven by Paul Debolt; which was fading on longer runs. The car was stable throughout the race, but Wyatt would later express concerns that the car was not a free as he would like it to be. He was certainly turning off some impressive lap times and there was hope that he would be able to mount a challenge against front runner, Mark Wertz. Lap 74 would show the white flag. But a CAUTION flag followed. This set the race up for a green, white checkered finish. Wyatt got an astounding restart on Wertz coming out of four, but the win was not ours to have. When the checkered flag waved, Wyatt came home .0035 seconds behind race winner Wertz, 0061 seconds ahead of third place finisher Danny Edwards and .0071 seconds ahead of past weeks points leader Greg Edwards.
During his post race interview, Wyatt expressed his disappointment with his runner-up outing: “The car just was tight the whole race. I just misinterpreted the car from practice. I should’ve made some changes. I second-guessed myself and bit the bullet, but we’ll get ‘em next week.”
