For Immediate Release:July 4, 2006

Eric Berndt, Tom Butler, Chris Matthews, Joey Ferrigno, Sean Foster, And Jeff Jolly Score July 4 Feature Wins At Stafford Motor Speedway

Tuesday, July 4th was the rescheduled Connecticut Classic 150 event at Stafford Motor Speedway. In NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series action, Eric Berndt was the SK Modified® feature winner, Tom Butler was the Late Model feature winner, Chris Matthews was the SK Light feature winner, Joey Ferrigno and Sean Foster were the Limited Late Model feature winners, and Jeff Jolly was the DARE Stock feature winner.

In the 40-lap SK Modified® feature, Eric Berndt, of Rocky Hill, had the lead taken away from him by a caution flag, but he made a last lap pass to regain the lead and take the win away from Kenny Horton. Horton took the lead on lap-2 and held the top spot until lap-23 when Woody Pitkat moved out front. Pitkat appeared to have the strongest car, but he didn’t get through the gearbox on a lap-36 restart and went to the back of the pack. Pitkat’s misfortune moved Horton back out front with Berndt alongside for the restart. Berndt moved past Horton to take the lead on the restart, but the caution came out before the lap could be completed, so Berndt went back to second. Berndt then ran behind Horton for three laps before making his winning pass in turns 1+2 on the last lap of the race. Rounding out the top-5 behind Berndt and Horton were Keith Rocco, Todd Owen, and John Blewett, III.

In the 30-lap Late Model feature, Tom Butler, of Stafford Springs, moved past Todd Owen on a late restart to claim his first Late Model feature win of the 2006 season. Ed Ricard led the first 16 laps of the race before surrendering the lead to Owen. A caution with 20-laps complete slowed the field and gave Butler the restart opportunity he needed. On lap-23, Butler moved to the inside of Owen to take over the top spot. Once into the lead, Butler checked out on the rest of the field as Owen was locked in a side-by-side duel with Jim Peterson for second place. Owen and Peterson ran side-by-side over the final 5-laps of the race with Owen taking the spot at the stripe by a nose. Scott Foster, Jr. finished fourth with Ricard rounding out the top-5. In the 20-lap SK Light Modified feature, Chris Matthews, of Stafford, scored his third SK Light feature win of the 2006 season. Matthews took the lead from Brit Andersen on lap-6, and was never headed for the top spot. Richie Pallai, Jr. finished second to maintain the SK Light points lead, Andersen finished third, and Shelly Perry beat Wade Mattesen to the stripe by a nose to take fourth.

In the first of two Limited Late Model feature events, Joey Ferrigno, of East Hartford, scored his first feature win of the 2006 season with a wire-to-wire drive. Ferrigno was never seriously challenged as the race went the 20-lap distance caution free. Michael Chaves finished second, with Mike Sweeney, Jr. edging out Andrew Durand at the line by a nose for third, and Sean Foster rounded out the top-5 in fifth position. In the second Limited Late Model feature event, Sean Foster, of Ellington, took the lead from Michael Chaves on a lap-13 restart, and then drove to his first career victory at Stafford Motor Speedway. Charlie Newman finished second, with Glenn Bartkowski, Ed Lofland, and Kevin Gambacorta rounding out the top-5.

In the 15-lap DARE Stock feature, Jeff Jolly, of Hamden, took the race lead in the early laps and then held off a hard charging Lori-Jo Rzeszutek in the closing laps to take his first career DARE Stock victory. Rounding out the top-5 behind Jolly and Rzeszutek were Vince Gambacorta, Dan Flannery, and Rob Lawrence.
