Junior Miller Has Momentum Heading Into Friday Night's NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour Race At Caraway Speedway

Despite the slight break in racing action, current NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour championship point leader Junior Miller has been a busy man racing at Bowman Gray Stadium in Winston-Salem, N.C. With his feature win last Saturday at the famed bull ring, Miller scored his 65th victory to end a 16 year-old stranglehold held by Ralph Brinkley as the most victorious driver in the history of NASCAR's longest running sanctioned track that has been in action for over 58 years.

"A few years ago, Ralph and I were joking around and he told me that'd I'd never break his victory record at Bowman Gray Stadium," the 55 year-old Miller says with a laugh. "He told me he'd spend his Social Security check to make sure I never beat him. I guess he's going to have to go back to the bank now because I beat him. I really wanted to get the record as the driver who had the most Modified wins at Bowman Gray. It's been on my mind for awhile."

Miller, a 55 year-old resident of Pine Hall, N.C., is the current NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour point leader who also leads the Modified track point standings at Bowman Gray over rival Burt Myers.

"We've been having a good year so far and really been on a roll - I just hope our luck doesn't end," Miller says. "In racing you can run out of racing pretty quickly. I know that from experience. If we can stay on this roll I think we'll have a good shot at winning both the Whelen Southern Modified Tour championship as well as the Modified title at Bowman Gray.

"It's going to be tough because there are a lot of great drivers who aren't going to just roll over and give it to me. Tim Brown and Burt Myers are both going to make it tough on me and they're right there behind me in the Whelen Southern Modified Tour championship race. Michael Clifton is also going to be tough. We all race hard but we also race clean, so that makes it pretty neat."

With the Whelen Southern Modified Tour back in action, Miller will try to pick up where he left off at Caraway Speedway this Friday night.

"I'll be glad to get back to racing and I know all the guys on my team are looking forward to Friday night," Miller says. "I know all the guys that just race on the Whelen Southern Modified Tour are ready to get back behind the wheel. We've had time to work on our car to get it even better than it was so I can't wait to get back to Caraway this Friday. We've got a good team and a good car so that makes it fun for me as a driver. I've won a lot of races at Caraway so I'm really looking forward to this Friday night. Caraway Speedway is one of my favorite tracks."

Miller is also one of the most outspoken drivers to praise what NASCAR has done since taking over as the sanctioning body of the Whelen Southern Modified Tour prior to the 2005 season.

"NASCAR has taken this series a long way and I know they still want this series to grow even more," Miller says. "All these young guys have a lot to look forward to because anything NASCAR puts its hands on is almost always a big success. All the teams and drivers on the Whelen Southern Modified Tour are excited and they should be because NASCAR is going to take this series a long way."
