Grand fireworks show & tons of racing action on tap Monday, July 3 at South Boston Speedway

South Boston Speedway will usher in the July 4 Independence Day holiday in grand fashion Monday, July 3 with the running of the Bailey’s 200 NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series race program.
At the close of the night of racing action, South Boston Speedway will host its annual fireworks display, which promises to the best in track history.
“South Boston Speedway has always been known for its great fireworks show,” General Manager Cathy Rice said. “This year will be even better. We will be having our biggest and best fireworks display in our history.”
The green flag will fall for the first race of the evening at America’s Hometown Track at 8 p.m. Advance tickets for the evening are available at the speedway office for the special price of $10 through 5 p.m. on Friday, June 30. Tickets on the night of the race will b priced at $15 for adults. Any fan wearing any Bailey’s clothing (hat, shirts, etc.) will receive $1 off the admission price on race day.
The featured racing event of the evening will be a 200-lap race for the drivers in the Barkhouser Late Model Stock Car Division.
Jon Denning leads the chase for the division point championship, while Owen Miller is second and is just four points ahead of third-place Jonathan Cash. Eddie Johnson and Drew Herring round out the top five drivers in the championship race.
Those drivers and many more of the region’s top Late Model Stock Car Division competitors are expected to be on hand for the 200-lap shootout on the four-tenths mil asphalt oval.
Other races slated as part of the Bailey’s 200 include a 100-lap race for the Strutmasters.com Limited Sportsman Division and a 75-lap race for the competitors in the Budweiser Pure Stock Division.
Six-time winner Bruce Anderson is the point leader in the race for the Limited Sportsman Division championship, while two-time winner Tommy Peregoy is second in the title chase and is followed by Danny Willis, Jr., Brian Pembleton and Charles Barnes in the top five.
The Pure Stock Division point lead currently belongs to Chuck Watkins. Quain Moore is second in the standings and is followed by Courtney Crosby and Lee Anderson.
Pit gates will open July 3 at 2 p.m. Practice for all divisions will be held from 3:15 p.m. until 4:45 p.m. Grandstand gates will open and qualifying time trials will get cranked up at 6 p.m. and will be followed by a fan appreciation segment at 7:15 p.m.
