Record-Tying Bowman Gray Stadium Win Helps Junior Miller Move Up In NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series Division I Standings
Jun 20, 2006 - updated Jun 20th, 2006 8:19pm
Web posted by Jeremy Davidson

Daytona Beach, Fla. --

For Immediate Release:(June 20, 2006)

* Kansas Driver John Allen Maintains Lead at Lakeside and Linn County

Junior Miller's record-tying win at Bowman Gray Stadium, in Winston-Salem, N.C., not only moved him one step closer to a career goal of becoming the track's all-time win leader, but also moved him into third place in the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series Division I standings. Miller, of Pine Hall, N.C., is a five-time champion at NASCAR's longest-running weekly track and earned his 64th career win at the track last Saturday - moving him into a tie with Ralph Brinkley for Bowman Gray's all-time win record. Elsewhere, as John Allen maintained his lead in the NDWS Division I standings with a second-place finish at Lakeside Speedway, in Kansas City, Kan., last Friday, Jamie Stephens Jr. advanced to sixth-place on the NDWS Division I leaderboard with his third win at Lanier National Speedway, in Braselton, Ga., on Saturday. Stephens, of Conyers, Ga., has not finished outside the top five in his last 13 races at Lanier, dating back to July 23, 2005.

While Stephens advanced with his victory, Allen is at a crossroads of his racing season. The NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series Division I championship standings are determined by each driver's best 16 points finishes - a policy that helps drivers "drop" their poorest finishes and provide some relief in the event of rainouts or other troubles. Once a driver has recorded more than 16 starts, their best 16 results will determine their position in the championship standings. The more top finishes they have, the more challenging it can become to increase their overall point total as only their very best results will make a difference.

Allen, of Chante, Kan., has logged 17 starts this season, at Lakeside and Linn County Speedway, in Pleasanton, Kan. From this point forward, any finishes outside the top five or 10 places may not increase Allen's total and the pressure is on. NASCAR points are collected until Oct. 1. At stake is a $25,000 bonus to the 2006 NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series Division I champion and a potential $50,000 prize which is awarded to the 2006 national champion. Greg Edwards' third runner-up finish in three weeks at Langley Speedway, in Hampton, Va., helped him advance to 10th place in the NDWS Division I standings this week. Greg's older brother, Danny, won the Late Model Sportsman feature race at Langley on Saturday.

Editor's Note: NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series Division championship
standings are based on NASCAR points, awarded to all drivers in the top
class at each participating track. From Jan.1-Oct. 1, drivers collect
points and bonus points (depending on the number of cars competing in a
given race). The driver with the most NASCAR points from each track is
ranked in the Division standings, based on their best 16 points finishes
from any tracks in the Division. For example, John Allen has made 17
starts and collected 1,050 points. Allen's NDWS Division I total, based
on his best 16 points finishes, is 1,016, including results from both
Lakeside and Linn County Speedways. To view complete NASCAR points from
each track, visit www.nascarmedia.com and click on "NASCAR Dodge Weekly
Series."
