Hampton, VA --

NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series at Langley Speedway

(June 14) — Langley Speedway kicks off the Father’s Day weekend this Saturday, June 17, continuing its 2006 NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series schedule with a five-race program.
Saturday’s lineup includes: Crossroads Fuel Service/Sunoco Dealers Late Models (75 laps); Super 8 Motels/Dunkum’s Machine Shop Grand Stocks (40 laps); Verizon Super Trucks (25 laps); E-Z Auto Rental UCARs (25 laps); and, BBFlabradors.com Wolf Trucks (20 laps).
Gates open at 12 noon. Practice begins at 1:30 p.m. and time trials get under way at 4. Pre-race activities, including a demonstration of remote-controlled vehicles from Hobbytown USA, starts at 6:30. The first feature event goes green at 7.
Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children, 6-12. “Little Race Fans” (under 6) are admitted free when accompanied by an adult. Also, there is no charge for military members in uniform. “Family Packs,” which include two adult and two children’s tickets, are $25 — a savings of $5. Skybox seats are $30 each. There is no charge for parking.

Langley Speedway will recognize its “#1 Dad” during Saturday evening’s program. The winner will receive a nice array of prizes, including free admission to this week’s races, a gift package from RaceCom of Virginia and a watch from Mark Friedman’s Custom Jewelers.
To nominate your favorite father, just compose a brief paragraph telling why your dad is #1 and send it to the Speedway. You may e-mail it to <michael@langley-speedway.com> or fax it to Lindsay at (757) 865-0072. The deadline is 4 p.m. on Thursday, June 15. Please be sure to include your name and phone number with your entry.

Langley Speedway’s weekly “test and tune” session is scheduled for Thursday, June 15. Pit gates open at 4 p.m. and practice runs from 5 ‘til dark. Pit admission is $10 with a valid NASCAR, INEX or Langley Speedway license and $20 without a current competition license. There is no charge to watch the practice rounds from the grandstands.
Summaries of Thursday night practice rounds are available on the track's Web site, www.langley-speedway.com. In the menu on the homepage, click on "Results," then follow the appropriate links. Practice results are posted shortly after the end of each week's session.

Here are a few things to keep an eye on this Saturday:
• After producing a blizzard of yellow flags on May 27 (eight cautions) and June 3 (nine), the Late Model division calmed down considerably last week. The June 10 feature was slowed only twice.
• Ricky Derrick will be shooting for his fourth straight victory in the Grand Stock race. He enjoys a 34-point advantage over defending champ Dean Shiflett in the standings, 198-164.
• Randy Prillaman will try to get back on track in the UCAR race. So dominant in winning the season’s first three events, Prillaman crashed out of the June 3 contest and finished 13th, allowing Jonathan Mullett and Robbie Davis to narrow his points lead to only two. Beginning with Saturday’s race, the UCARs will be in action for the next three weeks in a row.
• Jill Brinson will look to maintain her unbeaten record in the 20-lap Wolf Truck feature. Brinson has won the first three races of the season and has posted the quickest qualifying lap for each event.
• • •
Rained out on June 7 and 14, Langley Speedway’s “Extreme Sports Wednesday” program gets rolling again on June 21. The lineup features “1-on-1 Drags,” “Time Attacks” (solo runs against the clock) and a “Burnout Competition.”
Gates open at 5:30 p.m. and the fun gets under way at 7. Pit admission is $15 and general admission grandstand tickets are $8. Kids under 6 are admitted free to the grandstand when accompanied by an adult.

NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series action continues at Langley Speedway on Saturday, June 24, with Budweiser Night at the Races. Topping that evening’s feature slate is a 100-lapper for the Late Models. The NTELOS Wireless Super Streets, Cook’s Moving Service INEX Legends and UCARs will also be on hand.
• • •
Don’t forget! The Speedway’s Independence Day fireworks display is scheduled for Saturday, July 1.
• • •
Finally, a big “Congratulations!” to Denny Hamlin on his first NASCAR Nextel Cup Series victory last Sunday at Pocono. Hamlin was the 1997 champion in Langley’s old Mini Stock class.
• • •
A longtime member of the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series, Langley Speedway is a .395-mile, slightly-banked oval. The track is located at 11 Dale Lemonds Dr., off North Armistead Ave., in Hampton, Va.
To learn more about Langley Speedway and its schedule of upcoming events, fans may call the Speedway office at (757) 865-RACE or visit the track’s Web site — www.langley-speedway.com.
