Jon Denning posts second Late Model Stock Car win of season at SoBo, closes within four points in title chase

South Boston, VA. --

Jon Denning of Springfield, N.J. started from the pole and led every circuit of the 150-lap Barkhouser Late Model Stock Car Division event Saturday night at South Boston Speedway to claim his second victory of the season.

Dennings' victory came in the featured attraction of the School's Out 150 presented by Spaulding Equipment and Little Caesar's Pizza NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series event. The win enabled Denning to unofficially close within four points of the lead in the Late Model Stock Car points chase.

Denning claimed the pole position for the race after reeling off a qualifying lap of 15.778 seconds on the four-tenths mile asphalt oval.

Rodney Cook of Reidsville, N.C. started sixth in the 18-car field and roared to a runner-up finish, his best of the season at South Boston Speedway. Speedy Faucette of Mebane, N.C. also tallied his best run of the season, placing third in the race after beginning from the seventh starting slot. The third-place finish by Faucette came on the heels of a fourth-place finish in the last event at America's Hometown Track.

Eddie Johnson of Midlothian, Va. finished in the fourth-place spot in the race after making a late pass of Owen Miller of Emporia, Va., who finished in fifth place and maintained the point lead in the division.

Wayne Ramsey of Amherst, Va. secured a sixth-place finish for the night and was followed in seventh place by outside pole sitter David Triplett, Jr. of Timberlake, N.C. and David Quackenbush of Lorton, Va. in the eighth slot. Quackenbush was the final driver on the lead lap.

Jonathan Bailey of Keysville, Va. placed ninth in the field and was followed in the top 10 by Cliff Daniels of Smithfield, Va.. Bailey and Daniels were each one lap down at the close of the race.

The race was slowed by just one caution, which came out on lap 55.

Bruce Anderson continues his winning ways by scoring triumph in 50-lap Limited Sportsman Division race

Another Saturday night, another Strutmasters.com Limited Sportsman Division victory for Bruce Anderson of South Boston, Va.

Anderson, a five-time winner at the four-tenths mile asphalt oval this season, grabbed the pole position for the 50-lap race with a qualifying run of 16.287 seconds and led every circuit to best the 11-car field.

Justin Snow of Danville, Va., who was making his first appearance of the season at South Boston, started from the outside pole and wound up with a runner-up finish in the caution-free race.

Tommy Peregoy of Red Oak, Va., who battled side-by-side with Snow for several laps near the end of the race, posted a third-place finish after owning the second-place position for a short time in the event.

Charles Barnes of Chase City, Va. motored to a fourth-place run and was followed in the top five by Danny Willis, Jr. of Cluster Springs, Va., who nipped Brian Pembleton of Amelia, Va. for the position at the start-finish line.

Point leader Chuck Watkins sweeps twin 30-lap races for Pure Stock Division

Chuck Watkins of Stem, N.C. could not have asked for much more Saturday night. Watkins entered the night as the point leader in the Budweiser Pure Stock Division with twin 30-lap races on tap.

By the end of the night, Watkins had scored two victories and pushed his win total for the season to three and padded his advantage in the chase for the title.

Watkins started the opening 30-lapper in the sixth position after the top eight qualifiers were inverted for the outset of the race. Joey Conner of Halifax, Va. posted the fast qualifying time during time trials.

Quain Moore of Callands, Va. tallied a second-place run in the opening race after leading early on following a multi-car crash on the sixth circuit. Watkins worked around Moore late in the race when traffic on the track became a factor.

Keith Langston of Pittsboro, N.C. registered a third-place finish in the opening event and was followed in the top five by Chris Crosby of Scottsburg, Va. in fourth place and Jeremy Ratliff in the fifth position.

The top five finishers in the first race were inverted prior to the start of the second 30-lap race.

Watkins avoided an early spin by Crosby in front of the field on the first lap and, after taking the lead on lap 12, held on for the victory.

Scott Phillips of Roxboro, N.C. placed second in the nightcap, while Langston registered his second straight third-place run. Moore wound up with a fourth-place finish in the finale, while Chris Seay of Ringgold. Va. rounded out the top five.

Jeremy Cook grabs victory in highly-competitive 25-lap INEX Legends Series race

Jeremy Cook of Hampton, Va. swiped the lead on the 23rd circuit and held off a pair of hard-charging drivers to claim a victory in the 25-lap race for the touring INEX Legends Series event.

When Cook moved into first place in the closing stages of the event it marked the fourth time he had owned the lead spot on the track during the race.

The race featured 10 lead changes among three different drivers. Pole sitter Craig Goess, Jr. of Greenville, N.C. led the field on four different occasions before settling for a runner-up finish. Third-place finisher Cameron Patrick of Yorktown, Va. owned the lead twice.

Brad Arthur of Roanoke Rapids, Va. placed fourth in the race, while Kevin Yeatts of Powhatan, Va. rounded out the top five drivers in the 17-car field.
