South Boston, VA. --

Jon Denning of Springfield, N.J. started from the pole and led every circuit of the 150-lap Barkhouser Late Model Stock Car Division event Saturday night at South Boston Speedway to claim his second victory of the season.

Dennings' victory came in the featured attraction of the School's Out 150 presented by Spaulding Equipment and Little Caesar's Pizza NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series event. The win enabled Denning to unofficially close within four points of the lead in the Late Model Stock Car points chase.

Denning claimed the pole position for the race after reeling off a qualifying lap of 15.778 seconds on the four-tenths mile asphalt oval.

Rodney Cook of Reidsville, N.C. started sixth in the 18-car field and roared to a runner-up finish, his best of the season at South Boston Speedway. Speedy Faucette of Mebane, N.C. also tallied his best run of the season, placing third in the race after beginning from the seventh starting slot. The third-place finish by Faucette came on the heels of a fourth-place finish in the last event at America's Hometown Track.

Eddie Johnson of Midlothian, Va. finished in the fourth-place spot in the race after making a late pass of Owen Miller of Emporia, Va., who finished in fifth place and maintained the point lead in the division.

Wayne Ramsey of Amherst, Va. secured a sixth-place finish for the night and was followed in seventh place by outside pole sitter David Triplett, Jr. of Timberlake, N.C. and David Quackenbush of Lorton, Va. in the eighth slot. Quackenbush was the final driver on the lead lap.

Jonathan Bailey of Keysville, Va. placed ninth in the field and was followed in the top 10 by Cliff Daniels of Smithfield, Va.. Bailey and Daniels were each one lap down at the close of the race.

The race was slowed by just one caution, which came out on lap 55.

Point leader Chuck Watkins sweeps twin 30-lap races for Pure Stock Division

Chuck Watkins of Stem, N.C. could not have asked for much more Saturday night. Watkins entered the night as the point leader in the Budweiser Pure Stock Division with twin 30-lap races on tap.

By the end of the night, Watkins had scored two victories and pushed his win total for the season to three and padded his advantage in the chase for the title.

Watkins started the opening 30-lapper in the sixth position after the top eight qualifiers were inverted for the outset of the race. Joey Conner of Halifax, Va. posted the fast qualifying time during time trials.

Quain Moore of Callands, Va. tallied a second-place run in the opening race after leading early on following a multi-car crash on the sixth circuit. Watkins worked around Moore late in the race when traffic on the track became a factor.

Keith Langston of Pittsboro, N.C. registered a third-place finish in the opening event and was followed in the top five by Chris Crosby of Scottsburg, Va. in fourth place and Jeremy Ratliff in the fifth position.

The top five finishers in the first race were inverted prior to the start of the second 30-lap race.

Watkins avoided an early spin by Crosby in front of the field on the first lap and, after taking the lead on lap 12, held on for the victory.

Scott Phillips of Roxboro, N.C. placed second in the nightcap, while Langston registered his second straight third-place run. Moore wound up with a fourth-place finish in the finale, while Chris Seay of Ringgold. Va. rounded out the top five.
