Miller Motorsports once again runs Top 10 till mechanical issues force an early retirement from the Giant Food Stores 250 in Jennerstown PA.
With having competed last year at the Jennerstown USAR Pro Cup race, Travis had high hopes of using the experience to his advantage. Unfortunately, as soon as practice started, so did the troubles for Miller Motorsports. Several issues kept the Miller Motorsports team on pit road during the first rounds of practice, instead of looking for speed on the track. Unfortunately the time spent on pit road showed up on the speed chart with Travis only posting a best lap of 24th out of 42 cars during practice.
Travis and the Miller Motorsports/RaceTalklive.com Ford Fusion stayed focused while preparing for their qualifying run, they stepped up and claimed the 12th starting position as well as Top Qualifying Rookie, “We had a very strong qualifying run today, I felt like I left a little on the table due to not knowing how the car would react getting into the corners with the changes we made before the run” said driver Travis Miller.
During the first stages of the race Travis was able to advance his position to 10th and was having a great run battling with Jody Lavender to stay in the top 10. During a caution on lap 84 the leaders decided to short pit with Travis following in there tracks. The Miller Motorsports 76n Ford Fusion rolled on to pit road, the pit crew jumped into action and were able to make the needed adjustments Travis wanted, and came off pit road in the 13th position. Travis was able to battle his way up to the 8th position with four of the front runners still needing to pit. Unfortunately on lap 138 the rear end on the Miller Motorsports/RaceTalklive.com Ford Fusion started smoking, forcing Travis to pit road, and putting an early end to a night that had the makings of a great run for the Rookie driver.
You can watch the Giant Food Stores 250 Wednesday Night May 31st at 5:00 pm est. on the Speed Channel, with a re-broadcast at 12 noon on June 1st.
The next event for the team will be Saturday, June 10 at Mansfield Motorsports Speedway in Mansfield, Ohio.
