Casey Wyatt gets his Second win of the Season

Race Date: May 27, 2006

Memorial Day Crossroads Fuel Service/Sunoco Dealers Late Models 75

Langley Speedway, Hampton Virginia- ”Last week our crew made changes to the car trying to get a jump start for the hotter temperatures,” stated Casey. “We just missed it a little. This week we went back to our old set up and the car was better.”

Casey qualified 5th and after the re-draw started 2nd. When the green flag waved Casey fell into second and followed the leader until lap 29. As the race resumed, Sampson was able to fashion a slight advantage over Wyatt, who had a mirror-full of Shiflett. After a short while, Wyatt separated himself from Shiflett and zeroed in on the leader. Wyatt took a quick peek to the inside of Sampson in Turn 4 on lap 27, but chose not to challenge him. Lap 28, he made his move putting a fender alongside Sampson coming

off of turn four. He ran side by side down the front stretch and pulled ahead on the back straightaway in lap 29. After doing so, Casey stretched his lead to 3/4 of a straightaway over second place, when a caution came out on lap 33.

This erased his lead and allowed for some drivers to get into position to make their run. One of those drivers was Danny Edwards. Edwards a former Busch Grand National and ASA driver has plenty of experience at Langley. The top five for the restart were Wyatt, Sampson, Shiflett, Balluzzo and Danny Edwards.

After the restart, Wyatt’s lead was a comfortable distance of about half a straightaway. His lead was put to rest when the caution flag flew on lap 52. After the restart Casey once again pulled out to a demanding lead, while Edwards was making his way to second. By lap 70 Wyatt & Edwards were four lengths ahead of third place.

The caution flew 2 more times before the deciding one came out. With less than 10 laps to go, Edwards moved up to Wyatt's rear bumper. Making several attempts Edwards got a bumper under Wyatt coming off of turn 2 on the last lap. Edwards beat Wyatt to the line by 6”. But the field was not met with a checkered flag. Instead of the checkered flag, they saw their seventh yellow flag. Scoring set the restart and Wyatt was on the point…. the lead, Edwards second.

When the green flag flew for the last time, Wyatt’s winning margin over Edwards was a car-length. When the field came to the line for the checkers, Wyatt would come across the line 0.305-second ahead of Edwards.

In Victory Lane, Wyatt thanked Edwards for driving him clean & stated “The car was really good on the short runs. Danny’s car was killing me on the long runs. If that race would’ve ended when that caution came out, it would’ve been Danny’s race, for sure. But, the cards didn’t lie that way and it didn’t play out that way. Luckily, we got a couple cautions there at the end and, like I said, my car was awesome on restarts and we just could eat them boys up for the first couple laps, so I was kind of glad to see those last couple cautions there at the end.”

Casey and Team 29 would like to thank their sponsors: Wyatt Homes Inc., Rica-Sha Hair and Tanning, George Brooks Law Offices & our latest addition Bostic Electric out of Hampton Va. for their continued support.
