South Boston, VA. --

Jason Hogan scores victory in NASCAR AutoZone Elite Division Southeast SeriJason Hogan of Cleveland, Ga. grabbed the lead on lap 30 of the 150-lap race for the touring NASCAR AutoZone Elite Division Southeast Series and held on the rest of the way to score his first victory of the season Saturday night at South Boston Speedway.

The race was the featured attraction of the Salute to Armed Forces Night at America's Hometown Track.

Hogan's victory, coupled with a second-place run by J.R. Norris of Mulga, Ala., locked the two drivers in a tie atop the point standings for the series through two of four races in the final season of competition for the series. Norris won the first race for the series this year and Hogan was the runner-up in the season opener.

Hogan began the race in the sixth starting position after the top eight qualifiers were inverted prior to the race. Norris rolled off in the 17-car field from the fourth starting position.

Gary Helton of Sevierville, Tenn. secured a third-place run in the race, while Ricky Turner of Dawsonville, Ga. placed fourth after starting on the outside of the front row, courtesy of the inversion.

Dusty Williams of Garden City, Ga., the winner of last year's event at South Boston Speedway, rounded out the top five drivers in the race. Jeff Fultz of Mooresville, N.C. was sixth at the finish line, while Josh Hammer of Chelsea, Ala. finished seventh and was the final driver on the lead lap. Hammer began the event from the pole position after the inversion was put in place.

Eddie Stivers, III of Columbia, S.C. finished in the eighth position on the track and was followed in the top 10 by Ted Mickelson of Greenville, S.C. in ninth and Walter Sutcliffe of New Haven, Conn. in 10th. Stivers was one lap down at the end, while Mickelson and Sutcliffe were each two laps down at the end.

Ryan Lawler of Colleyville, Tex. set the fast qualifying time with a sizzling lap of 15.443 seconds.

Turner surged to the lead at the outset of the race and held the top spot until Norris moved into first place on the ninth circuit. Norris remained atop the scoreboard until Hogan swiped the first-place position for good on lap 30.

Drew Herring scores second straight victory in Late Model Stock Car Division action at South Boston

Drew Herring of Benson, N.C. is quickly forgetting about his early-season woes at South Boston Speedway.

After starting the season with bad luck and subpar finishes, Herring is beginning to get things turned around in Barkhouser Late Model Stock Car Division action.

Saturday night, Herring scored his second consecutive pole position triumph and followed that up with his second straight NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series victory on the four-tenths mile asphalt oval.

Jon Denning of Springfield, N.J. began the race second and claimed a runner-up finish. Denning made a late charge to try and pass Herring following the race's final caution period, which set up a five-lap dash to the checkered flag at the close of the race.

Wayne Ramsey of Amherst, Va. slipped past Speedy Faucette of Mebane, N.C. coming out of turn four on the final lap of the race to secure a third-place run in the unofficial rundown. Faucette held on after the contact with Ramsey to place fourth, while Philip Morris of Ruckersville, Va., a two-time winner at South Boston Speedway this season, rounded out the top five drivers.

Rodney Cook of Reidsville, N.C. overcame a black-flag penalty for rough driving to secure a sixth-place run, while Owen Miller of Emporia, Va. finished seventh and became the division's new point leader. Jonathan Cash of Oxford, N.C. entered the event as the division point leader, however, a flat tire forced him to pit for repairs and left him with an unofficial finish outside the top 15.

Eddie Johnson of Midlothian, Va. posted an eighth-place run in the 21-car field and was followed in the top 10 by Adam Barker of Hurt, Va. in ninth place and Jonathan Bailey of Keysville, Va. in the 10th position.

Joey Conner becomes sixth different Pure Stock Division winner in 2006

Joey Conner of Halifax, Va. grabbed the lead before the halfway point of the 50-lap race for the Budweiser Pure Stock Division and held on the rest of the way to secure a victory.

The win by Conner, who started third in the 14-car field, made him the sixth different winner in six Pure Stock events run at South Boston in 2006.

One-time winner Nick Igdalsky of South Boston, Va. roared from the rear of the field at the start of the race to capture a runner-up finish. Igdalsky set the fast qualifying time and could have started the race in the seventh position following an inversion, but opted instead to try his luck from the back of the pack.

Quain Moore of Callands, Va. finished third in the event, while Scott Phillips of Roxboro, N.C., who also has one win this season, finished in the fourth slot. Division points leader Chuck Watkins of Stem, N.C., who owns one victory this year, rounded out the top five competitors.

Godley wins caution-plagued Allison Legacy Series race

Matthew Godley, a three-time winner this season, posted a victory in the caution-filled 50-lap race for the touring Allison Legacy Series event.

Godley started from the pole in the race, which was slowed by 10 yellow flags and lasted one hour and five minutes, and led all the way, but not before fending off several challenges from runner-up Jonathan Kornegay, who leads the points chase in the series.

Casey Holt placed third in the 29-car field and was followed in the top five by Michael Cooper in the fourth position and Jason Lamole in the fifth slot.
