Points Update & Military Appreciation Night slated for May 20 Wednesday, May 17, 2006

Hampton, Va. --

NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series at Langley Speedway

Three streaks will be on the line this Saturday, May 20, when Langley Speedway hosts Military Appreciation Night presented by Pioneer Services, the fourth event on the track’s 2006 NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series calendar.
Saturday’s feature lineup includes: Crossroads Fuel Service/Sunoco Dealers Late Models (75 laps); Super 8 Motels/Dunkum’s Machine Shop Grand Stocks (40 laps); Verizon Super Trucks (25 laps); E-Z Auto Rental UCARs (25 laps); and, HRKC Pro Winged Champ Karts (20 laps). The Virginia Vintage Race Group will also be on hand for a feature contest.
Gates open at 12 noon and practice begins at 1:30 p.m. Time trials start at 4. Pre-race activities, including the Champ Kart 20-lapper, start at 6:30, followed by the rest of the feature card at 7.
Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children, 6-12. “Little Race Fans” (under 6) are admitted free when accompanied by an adult. Also, there is no charge for military members in uniform. “Family Packs,” which include two adult and two children’s tickets, are $25 — a savings of $5. Skybox seats, a popular option, are $30 each. There is no charge for parking.

Langley Speedway hosts its weekly “test and tune” session on Thursday, May 18. Pit gates open at 4 p.m. and practice runs from 5 ‘til dark. Pit admission is $10 with a valid NASCAR, INEX or Langley Speedway license and $20 without a current competition license. There is no charge to watch the practice rounds from the grandstands.
Summaries of Thursday night practice rounds are available on the track's Web site, www.langley-speedway.com. In the menu on the homepage, click on "Results," then follow the appropriate links. Practice results are posted shortly after the end of each week's session.

As for those three streaks...
• Three Late Model races have produced three different winners this season — Mark Wertz, Casey Wyatt and Greg Edwards. Looking for a likely candidate to be the fourth different winner? Anthony Warren, Danny Edwards and Jeff Shiflett would be solid choices.
• Randy Prillaman will be trying to maintain his perfect record in Saturday’s UCAR feature. He has been victorious in the season’s first two races. Robbie Davis led the first three laps of the season-opening event. Since then, it’s been all Prillaman.
• In the Grand Stock class, Ricky Derrick will be gunning for his third straight qualifying record. Coming into the season, Dean Shiflett held the division mark — 77.027 mph (18.461 seconds). Derrick set a new standard in time trials for the April 15 opener — 77.896 mph (18.255 seconds). He backed up that performance with another record-setting run on April 29 — 78.720 mph (18.064 seconds).

Emily Bond was recognized as Langley Speedway’s “#1 Mom” during last Saturday’s Mother’s Day Eve program. Emily is the wife of Matt Bond, driver of the #3 machine in the UCAR division.
• • •
NASCAR racing action continues at Langley Speedway on Saturday, May 27, as the track celebrates the Memorial Day Weekend. The evening’s feature slate includes Late Models, NTELOS Wireless Super Streets, Cook’s Moving Service INEX Legends and BBFlabradors.com Wolf Trucks.
• • •
The track kicks off its 2006 “Extreme Sports Wednesday” campaign on Wednesday, May 31. The weekly menu of motorized mayhem features “1-on-1 Drags,” “Time Attacks” (solo runs against the clock) and the popular “Burnout Competition.”
• • •
A longtime member of the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series, Langley Speedway is a .395-mile, slightly-banked oval. The track is located at 11 Dale Lemonds Dr., off North Armistead Ave., in Hampton, Va.
