Yelton Wins UARA Pepsi 150 at Motor Mile Speedway
May 1, 2006 - updated May 1st, 2006 10:44pm

Newton NC. --

April 30th

Jamie Yelton made his first visit to Motor Mile Speedway for the UARA Pepsi 150 a impressive one. Bringing out his brand new Marlowe Racing Chassis Monte Carlo to a track he has never raced on before was a bold move. But when you have David King and Greg Marlowe by your side, not to mention a brand new Custom Engine by Graham under the hood, Yelton had all the reasons in the world to be confident about his chances. Not to mention he has been very competitive all season long.

Before the beautiful black 8 car hit the high banked race track, Yelton got a walk around with Marlowe to get a look at the track and some helpful pointers. When practice did start Jamie felt right away he was very comfortable with the track and new car. By the end of both practices Yelton along with Jerame Donley were the fastest cars both practices. Alot of cars like Mark Setzer, Lucas Ransone and Keith Stiltner had times right with these guys, so when qualifying started everyone knew the times were going to be close, it was just a matter of who was going to hit their marks and get the Sunoco Pole Award. Yelton laid down a very fast 15.681 and looked to have the pole but with two cars left, Jerame Donley laid down a great lap of 15.613 and moved Yelton to the outside of the front row.

When the race started all 32 cars were ready for a exciting race. The grandstands were full and everyone had a great time at the UARA's pit party to kick off the nights Late Model event. As Donley lead the field around to take the green, Yelton had his sight on getting to turn 1 first, and when the green flag waved, Yelton did just that. He quickly jumped out front and set a pace that he hoped would separate him from the rest of the field. As Yelton found himself pulling off from the second place car of Donley, the rest of the feild was racing hard side by side Saturday night short track style racing. Alot of fast cars were coming to the front while some car that missed the race set up were going backwards, making action for the fans who were on their feet watching all the action around the speedway. As Yelton caught the tail end of the field, lap cars showed respect for the leader and made it easier then it had been for Jamie to work lap traffic. After a few cautions and the laps winding down, Yelton had stretched his lead almost a full straight away. But a late caution brought the leader back to the pack for a green white checkered Saturday night shoot out. Jamie knew all he had to do it make this restart count, not spin his tires and hit his mark. As the green flag flew Yelton put the horsepower to the track and set sail to pull of from the field. As the white flag flew Yelton knew only one more lap and he had completed his goal. At the checkered Jamie had pulled off from the feild again and brought home the trophy.

In victory lane the Forest City Badboys celebrated with alot of fans who came down to join them. Jamie had this to say " Wow, this car was awesome, David King, Greg Marlowe and all the guys at Marlowe Racing Chassis, my engine builder Graham, this race team, all did a great job to get me here tonight. Wow is all I can keep saying, I don't know how to thank them all. This car never changed all night, at any time I could pick my pace back up and go. I have never had a car this good. These guys all work so hard and it showed here tonight. I want to thank the UARA for this series, and Motor Mile people for letting us come here and race their beautiful facility. Also want to thank Brian Vance and the officials, they have worked real hard to get lap traffic to work with lead lap cars and tonight they did a great job of getting over. At Hickory we felt we should have won that race and at Myrtle Beach we felt we had a 2nd or 3rd place car, and finsihed 2nd at Southern National, now a Win here, we differently are going after this Championship. Our goal is to Win, and with all these guys behind me, I know we can. I want to thank all of theses guys again, Taylor for scoring and my Mom for making the trip and all the fans for coming out tonight, I hope everyone comes out in two weeks to Greenville Pickens to see another great UARA race"

Yelton was fifth in the UARA points Championship and tonight Win moved him to forth and closing in on first place Kyle Grissom.
