Morris holds off Miller to become SoBo's first two-time Late Model Stock Car Division winner in 2006

South Boston, VA. --

Phillip Morris of Ruckersville, Va. became South Boston Speedway's first two-time winner in Barkhouser Late Model Stock Car Division action in 2006 Saturday night, but it wasn't easy.

Morris held off several fierce challenges from Owen Miller of Emporia, Va. in the closing stages of the featured attraction of the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series racing program to score his second victory of the campaign.

Miller, who nearly pulled alongside Morris on a pair of occasions in the final 15 laps, posted a season-best second-place run in the 24-car field.

Cliff Daniels of Smithfield, Va. began the event in 10th place and wound up grabbing a third-place finish at the end, which was his best finish of the campaign. Daniels moved into the top three in the final five laps with a pass of fourth-place finishing Rodney Cook of Reidsville, N.C.

Jonathan Cash of Oxford, N.C. managed a fifth-place finish despite getting struck in the left side of his car during a caution period. The top five run enabled Cash to pad the points advantage he held in the division entering the event. Cash's previous finishes this year included a pair of runner-up performances and one third-place showing.

Cash was able to add to his point lead due to the fact that Jon Denning of Springfield, N.J. and Adam Barker of Hurt, Va., who entered the race second and third respectively in the title chase, each encountered problems during the night. Denning, who qualified second, never took the green flag after his problem materialized during warmup laps.

Keven Wood of Stuart, Va. posted a sixth-place run in the race, while Eddie Johnson of Midlothian, Va. was seventh in the unofficial rundown. Wayne Ramsey of Amherst, Va. placed eighth in the event and was followed in the top 10 by Ronald Hill of Rougemont, N.C. in the ninth slot and Jonathan Bailey of Keysville, Va. in the 10th position.

The race was slowed by four caution periods, the last of which came on lap 120 and set up a 25-lap green flag shootout to the checkered flag at the end of the event.

Anderson continues dominance in Limited Sportsman Division with 3rd straight triumph

Things are starting to look easy for Bruce Anderson of South Boston, Va.

Anderson started on the outside of the front row in the 12-car field for the Strutmasters.com Limited Sportsman Division, grabbed the lead on the opening circuit and motored out front the rest of the way in the 50-lap race.

The victory was the third straight for Anderson, who has yet to be beaten in the 2006 season at South Boston Speedway.

Tommy Peregoy of Red Oak, Va., who is currently second in the division point standings, started from the pole and motored to a second-place run to stay 12 points behind Anderson in the chase for the division championship.

Matt Lofton of Timberlake, N.C. posted a season-best third-place run in the caution-free event and was followed in the top five by Brian Pembleton of Amelia, Va. in fourth place and Danny Willis, Jr. of Cluster Springs, Va. in the fifth position.

Wilson ends five-year win drought at SoBo by scoring victory in 30-lap Pure Stock Division event

Jeff Wilson of Durham, N.C. had been to Victory Lane at South Boston Speedway before, but not in the past five years. Saturday night, Wilson snapped that winless drought with a victory in the 30-lap race for the Budweiser Pure Stock Division.

Wilson qualified first in the 14-car field, but had to start seventh following a pre-race inversion. By lap 12, however, Wilson had rallied to the front of the pack where he remained for the rest of the event.

Scott Phillips of Roxboro, N.C. rallied from a sixth starting position at the outset to finish as the runner-up, while Chuck Watkins of Stem, N.C., the division's current points leader, placed third.

Quain Moore of Callands, Va., who was one of three leaders in the race, grabbed a fourth-place finish at the checkered flag, while Lee Anderson of Gladys, Va., who trails Watkins by six points in the division standings, rounded out the top five competitors.

Darryl Lacks rolls to triumph in 25-lap race for Southern Vintage Modified drivers

Darryl Lacks surged past Randy Smith on the 18th lap and sped to a victory in the 25-lap race for the touring Southern Vintage Modified Series. The race was extended to 26 laps when a late-race caution set up a two-lap green flag shootout.

Darryl Lacks started third in the 15-car field, but made the most of lapped traffic late in the race to get past Smith, the winner of the first Southern Vintage race of the season at South Boston Speedway.

Smith wound up second in the event and was followed across the start-finish line by Donnie Lacks in third place and Rodney Cook in the fourth position.

Troy Dowdy scored the win in the Limited Division portion of the event.

Edwards leads early and late in Grand Stock Division

Bill Edwards of Ringgold, Va. started second in the five-car field for the 15-lap race for the Grand Stock Division and wound up scoring a victory.

Edwards led the first lap, slipped back to as far as third place before rallying back and regaining the lead for good on the 12th circuit of the race that featured four lead changes.

Troy Dowdy of Lynchburg, Va. grabbed a second-place run in the event, while Junior Hancock of Danville, Va., the 2005 Grand Stock Division champion at South Boston Speedway, finished in third place.
