Virginia Motor Speedway News
RD 1 Of The Victory Lap Late Model $25,000 Challenge This Saturday April 29Th At Virginia Motor Speedway
Apr 24, 2006 - updated Apr 24th, 2006 3:51pm
Web posted by Dave Seay

Saluda, VA --

Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway will be the place to be once again this Saturday Night, April 29th as it hosts Bill Hudgins Pontiac GMC Night featuring Round 1 of the Victory Lap Late Model $25,000 Challenge presented by BB&T.

The four race series will provide some of the best racing action of the season. In 2003 the speedway paid out a $15,000 bonus to John Staton of Chesapeake, VA for winning three of the four events. In 2004 the series did not pay out a bonus, as there were four different winners. Last year the speedway paid out a $5000 bonus to Brian Staton of Chesapeake, VA for his winning two of the four events. Can this year’s version produce a big money winner? Only time will tell, but you can bet that there will be a large contingent of competitive drivers that will be gunning for the big money. Race fans can look forward to another evening filled with fast family fun for everyone.

“This is like throwing gas on a fire,” commented Track General Manager Clarke Sawyer when asked about the level of competition expected for the four race series. “We already have one, if not the most competitive class of late model drivers in the country. I know I would put them up against anyone. Now you will see some regional hot shoes coming in to try and ride away with the big bonus money, we might all be surprised who shows up for these four races,” added Sawyer.

The four race series will once again offer a bonus program for multiple wins. The Victory Lap Late Model $25,000 Challenge will pay a $5,000 bonus to anyone winning two of the four events with it ballooning to $15,000 if a driver wins three of four events. And finally, if a driver should sweep all four events that driver would pick up a cool $25,000 bonus. Track rules for the Victory Lap Late Model Division will apply. Remaining tentative dates for the four race series will be June 10th, August 5th and September 2nd.

Also scheduled to race along with the Late Models on Saturday will be the Truckin Thunder Sportsman, Budweiser Modified, Al’s Auto Parts Chargers and the Dixie Chopper All American divisions.

Competitor gates for Saturday, April 29th will open at 3pm with spectator gates opening at 4pm. On track activities will begin at 6:15pm with hot laps. Divisions scheduled to race on Saturday: Victory Lap Late Models (40 Laps); Truckin Thunder Sportsman (30 Laps); Budweiser Modifieds (25 Laps); Al’s Auto Parts Chargers (25 Laps) and the Dixie Chopper All Americans (15 Laps). Late Model, Sportsman and Modified divisions will run Hot Lap Time Trials and features only. Charger will run Hot Lap Time Trials, heats and features. All Americans will run heats and features.

Admission price for Adults, Seniors and Military is $10; Students 13 – 17 years old $8, Children 7 – 12 years old $4 and Children 6 and under admitted free. The speedway offers a $2 discount coupon on the Speedway’s Website, good on any Adult, Senior and Military ticket making it an $8 admission. Fans need to have a coupon for each ticket purchased. The speedway also offers a “Family Pack” that includes two adult admissions and two children 12 and under admissions for only $20.

Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway, an ASA Member Track affiliate, is a 1/2-mile, dirt oval. Virginia Motor Speedway races weekly on Saturday nights and is located on U.S. Route 17, eight miles north of Saluda, VA and 25 miles south of Tappahannock, VA. The speedway is also just a short drive from Richmond, Fredericksburg, Southern Maryland and the Hampton Roads area.
