The day started off as any other with practice sessions for all divisions. With the NEW Bobby Creech chassis and a Bob Shreeves powerhouse under the hood, Casey averaged 6th fastest in practice and was pretty happy with the performance of the car. There were some tense moments before qualifying when the team worked feverishly to get a "gone bad" harmonic balancer replaced in time to hit the track. All went well and Casey spun off a 16.666- good enough for a 5th place starting position.
When the green flag dropped, Casey comfortably passed Anthony Warren for 4th place. At lap 4 the caution flag flew and Casey announced "I've gotta flat tire or something." Without any instruction from the team or hesitation, Casey pulled the car into the pits to the attention of the team. It quickly became clear that there were bigger problems when the tires and shocks checked out OK. The team soon announced "We're done!" and told Casey to park the car. The third link on the rear end came loose and left the rear end free to move around, creating a vibration. It seemed the race was over for Team 29.
But... on lap 30 the caution flag flew when Jeff Sampson crashed into a spun car in turn 3. While watching the clean up, Casey's car fired up and he pulled onto the track. When Casey re-entered the race, he was 13th. After the final 45 laps had ticked off, the next car Casey was to pass was the 4th place car of Jeff Shifflett.
Overall, Casey & the team are THRILLED with the car and the possibilities the season looks to hold. Casey's car owner and dad Wayne Wyatt states "Casey is the responsible for the car this year. He is the wheel-man and is doing his own set up. It's all up to him." From the looks of it, that's a GOOD THING!
Team 29 also wishes to extend a congratulations to Reca Motorsports and Mark Wertz for winning the season opener.
