World Of Outlaws Sanctioned Rumble On The River At Virginia Motor Speedway Postponed Due To Weather
Apr 8, 2006 - updated Apr 8th, 2006 2:43pm
Web posted by Dave Seay

Saluda, VA --

After discussions with the World of Outlaws Late Model Series (WoO), officials at Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway, due to the inclement weather plaguing the East Coast, have postponed the Rumble on the River 50 presented by Thurston Spring Service, Inc until next Saturday April 15th.

“This is one of the hardest things a promoter ever has to do,” said Track General Manger Clarke Sawyer. “But with the amount of rain expected in the area and the distances that many of the competitors and fans must drive, it is in the best interest on everyone’s behalf to postpone this weekend’s event,” added Sawyer.

“The World of Outlaws has a tradition of doing whatever it takes to get the show in, and rarely call an event prior to noon on raceday. But after having worked with several weather models we simply can’t see any scenario where we would get the race in and believe that this is the best decision for everyone involved,” commented Ben Geisler, Executive Vice President of Operations for DIRT Motorsports, Inc and the World of Outlaws Late Model Series.

The postponed $10,000 to win event will still be in front of the SPEED Channel cameras for airing on Sunday July 16th.

The entire program of World of Outlaws Late Models, Victory Lap Late Models, Truckin Thunder Sportsman and Budweiser Modifieds has been rescheduled for next Saturday April 15th. The Fan Appreciation Night previously scheduled will be rescheduled for a later date in the 2006 season. VMS officials will also look at rescheduling the Al’s Auto Parts Chargers and the Dixie Chopper All American features that were scheduled for April 15th.

Competitor gates for Saturday, April 15th will open at 12 Noon with spectator gates opening at 4pm. On track activities will begin at 6:00pm with hot laps. Time Trials are expected to begin at 6:45pm. Divisions scheduled to race on Saturday: World of Outlaws Late Models (50 Laps), Victory Lap Late Models (35 Laps); Truckin Thunder Sportsman (30 Laps) and Budweiser Modifieds (25 Laps). Late Model, Sportsman and Modified divisions will run Hot Lap Time Trials and Features only. Adult tickets are just $22, Senior and Military $20, Children 7 – 12 yrs old $10 and Children 6 and under free. Pit Passes will be only $25.

Fans can check out the speedway’s website for a special $2 off coupon good on any Adult, Senior or Military ticket. That makes the Adult admission for this must see show only $20 and a senior or military ticket only $18.

Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway is a 1/2-mile, dirt oval. The track is located on U.S. Route 17, eight miles north of Saluda, VA and 25 miles south of Tappahannock, VA. The speedway is just a short drive from Richmond, Fredericksburg, Southern Maryland and the Hampton Roads area.
