Faster times and a tighter grip was what several drivers were saying about the new track pavement at the Motor Mile Speedway Saturday afternoon following the final open practice session for LMSC, LMT, LS, PS and MOD-4.
"I believe the track surface is better then it's ever been," said Christiansburg's Derrick Lancaster, who races in the Limited Sportsmen Division.
Those same sentiments were echoed by every driver who showed up Saturday afternoon.
"This track is so fast and is smooth as butter," said Dusty Mullins, who competes in the Mod-4 division. "It should make for a lot of good competition this year."
Over in the truck division, Lindsey Holman was finally able to get some track time in after experiencing mechanical problems early on. "The track felt really great and I had a whole lot of grip," Holman said. "The track is so much faster since they paved it."
Fan favorite and MMS regular Tink Reedy was also impressed with the new track conditions.
"It's really quick," the Late Model driver said. "It's going to take a little time to get use to it and I know the track record is going to go down next weekend."
Motor Mile Speedway opens the 2006 season next Saturday, April 8, with the running of LMSC, LMT, LS, PS, Mod-4 and U-Cars. It will be double points night and the green flag waves at 4 PM
