Update - Final all-day practice set for this Saturday

Hampton, VA --

NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series
at Langley Speedway

(March 30) — With little more than a week left before the April 8 opening of Langley Speedway’s 2006 NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series campaign, drivers and teams will be making their final preparations for the new season this Saturday, April 1, when the track hosts the third of three all-day practice sessions.
Practice rounds on Saturday will run from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. and all cars must pass technical and safety inspections before venturing onto the Speedway.
Pit entry is $20 with the appropriate competition license (NASCAR, INEX or Langley Speedway) and $30 without a license. Licenses will be sold during the session. There is no charge to watch practice from the grandstand.

Langley Speedway’s regular, Thursday evening “test and tune” sessions will get under way on April 6. Pit gates open at 4 p.m. and practice runs from 5 ‘til dark. Pit admission is $10 with a valid NASCAR, INEX or Langley Speedway license. For those without a current competition license, entry into the pit area is $20. There is no charge for grandstand admission.
Also on Thursday, April 6, Langley Speedway will host an open house and dedication ceremony for Champs Corner, its new photo museum (parts of which feature the late Dale Lemonds) located next to the concession stand behind the main grandstand. As part of the celebration, it'll be Dollar Night at the concession stand with hot dogs, fries, chips, beer and sodas available for $1.00 each.
Fans will also notice the addition of a large, covered picnic seating area with tables and chairs. The new picnic area is behind the main grandstand, just across the pedestrian walkway from Champs Corner.

Last Saturday’s open practice was interrupted by pesky rain showers, which arrived at midday and lingered in the area for a good part of the afternoon. Track-drying efforts were rewarded later in the day, however, as cars were able to hit the Speedway for several practice rotations.
Greg Edwards of Poquoson, Va., topped the speed charts for all three rounds of Crossroads Fuel Service/Sunoco Dealers Late Model practice. His best lap of the day was clocked at 86.281 mph (16.481 seconds).
Under much more favorable weather conditions, Edwards turned heads during the March 18 practice session by reeling off a lap at 87.578 mph (16.237 seconds). That effort was over a tenth of a second quicker than the division qualifying record — 87.015 mph (16.342 seconds) — which Edwards set in April 2005.
A summary of practice activities is available on the track’s Web site, www.langley-speedway.com. In the menu on the homepage, click on “Results,” then follow the appropriate links. Practice results will be posted shortly after the session wraps up.

BBFlabradors.com, the online home of Bay Breeze Farm Labradors, has signed on to sponsor Langley Speedway’s new Wolf Truck division in 2006, providing a neat “canine connection.”
Bay Breeze Farm Labradors is located in the Holland area of Suffolk, Va., and breeds championship-quality black, yellow and chocolate labs.
The Wolf Trucks are full-size pickups with only minimal modifications. They’ll make their debut on Opening Night ‘06 — Saturday, April 8.

Fans will be hearing a new voice on the PA system at Langley Speedway this season as Brett Small slides behind the microphone.
Small, 21, is a native of Burke, Va., and is currently finishing up his undergraduate degree in Communications Studies at Christopher Newport University.
He was introduced to stock car racing at a young age by his grandfather, Jack Klawans, who owned a Chevrolet dealership and sponsored a car that competed at tracks up and down the East Coast.
An avid ice hockey fan, Small got his start in broadcasting as the announcer for a pro wrestling organization.
Hockey and rasslin’? Brett should be right at home in the sometimes rough-and-tumble world of Langley Speedway!

Starting soon, Langley Speedway will be offering an e-newsletter. Fans may register at the track’s Web site — www.langley-speedway.com.

Langley Speedway’s April 8 opener is upon us, but there’s still time to secure your season passes for all the action. Grandstand passes are $200 — $50 off the regular price. Skybox passes are $600 — a savings of $150. Trackside RV parking spots are available for $650.
Call the Speedway office at (757) 865-RACE for more details.
