Saluda, VA --

It’s no April Fool’s joke, Virginia Motor Speedway opens this Saturday night. With a very successful open practice now behind officials at Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway, preparations are being made for WRAR / WNNT Opening Night festivities this Saturday, April 1st. Officials, competitors and fans have all been eagerly awaiting opening day and the start of what is expected to be one of the Speedway’s best racing seasons in recent history. Opening day racing activities will include the Victory Lap Late Models, Truckin Thunder Sportsman, Al’s Auto Parts Chargers and the Dixie Chopper All Americans presented by Paul Sawyer’s Lawn Equipment in a little racing with attitude.

“We are very excited for the season to get started and to hear the roar of race cars once again,” commented track General Manager Clarke Sawyer. “If open practice is any indication, this is going to be a banner year. We had 106 competitors in attendance, even though Mother Nature was threatening the days activities, and every one of them seem to be on top of their game,” added Sawyer

Competitor gates for Saturday, April 1st will open at 12 Noon with spectator gates opening at 4pm. On track activities will begin at 6:15pm with hot laps. Divisions scheduled to race on Saturday: Victory Lap Late Models (35 Laps); Truckin Thunder Sportsman (30 laps); Al’s Auto Parts Chargers (25 Laps) and the Dixie Chopper All Americans presented by Paul Sawyer’s Lawn Equipment (15 Laps). Chargers and All Americans will run heats and features; Late Model and Sportsman divisions will run Hot Lap Time Trials and Features.

Admission price for Adults, Seniors and Military is $10; Students 13 – 17 years old $8, Children 7 – 12 years old $4 and Children 6 and under admitted free. The speedway will continue to offer a $2 discount coupon on the Speedway’s Website, good on any Adult, Senior and Military ticket making it an $8 admission. Fans will need to have a coupon for each ticket purchased. The facility will also continue to offer a “Family Pack” that includes two adult admissions and two children 12 and under admissions for only $20.

The excitement will not stop with opening night as Saturday April 8th for one night only the World of Outlaws Late Model Series will visit Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway for the $10,000 to win Rumble on the River 50 presented by Thurston Spring Service, Inc. Rick Eckert, Steve Francis, Chub Frank, Dale McDowell, Billy Moyer, Tim McCreadie, Brian Birkhofer, Dan Schlieper, Darrell Lanigan, defending race winner Clint Smith, Shane Clanton, John Blankenship and Eric Jacobsen will have their hands full with a contingent of regional hot shoes.

“This is an awesome deal for the track, to have the likes of Eckert, Frank and Francis along with the rest of the World of Outlaws drivers racing against some of the regions local talent the likes of Davey Johnson, Jeremy Miller, Booper Bare, Mike Balzano. It only adds up to being a barn burner for our fans, and you may just be surprised at who you will see on the track,” added Sawyer.

Information about the World of Outlaws Late Model event can be found on the track’s website or by visiting www.dirtmotorsports.com/LMS.

Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway, an ASA Member Track affiliate, is a 1/2-mile, dirt oval. The track is located on U.S. Route 17, eight miles north of Saluda, VA and 25 miles south of Tappahannock, VA. The speedway is just a short drive from Richmond, Fredericksburg, Southern Maryland and the Hampton Roads area.
