James Horner Confident Entering MASS Race at Southern National

LUCAMA, NC – James Horner, a multi-time winner at Carteret County Speedway, is hoping to pick up a victory in the Mid-Atlantic Street Stock Championship Series at Southern National Motorsports Park on Saturday night.

The 25-year-old from Swansboro, North Carolina is feeling confident after a turn of luck and a recent win at Carteret.  Horner has spent the past few weeks, sometimes into the overnight hours, working meticulously on his car so he can be a contender when he unloads on Saturday.

“I feel very confident,” Horner said.  “We have worked for the past two weeks getting the car prepared for this race and we are looking for a top-five finish on Saturday.  I expect it’s going to be a tough race.  There are not any bad cars in the MASS series and you have to respect that.  We are all the best from our home tracks and it makes for great racing.

“We all put the time in and we all want to win and I think we have a car that can win, we just have to hit the setup and here lately we have been getting it right and hope to continue that this Saturday.”

While Horner is a regular down at Carteret, he has logged a lot of laps at Southern National during the years and feels like he knows the track, and how to drive it, well.

“I know the track and now know more on how to adjust the car,” Horner stated.  “I think we will be better than ever.”

Horner is not just excited about returning to Southern National for the first time since March 2014, he is also excited about the level of competition he will be racing with in the MASS race.  With names such as Jeff Melton, Chuck Barnes, Greg Barnett and many others competing regularly in MASS, Horner knows he is racing among some of the best racers in the country.

“These are some of the best street stocks in the country and to race with them is a privilege and they are a great group of people,” Horner explained.  “When you go to a MASS race, you know it will be clean and anything you get on the track you earn.  I think it is the best Street Stock racing out there right now.”

Horner competes in a white and red no. 21 Ford Thunderbird with a throwback paint scheme that pays homage to Wood Brothers Racing.  In the MASS Championship Series, many of the competitors will have similar throwback looks on their racecars.

The MASS race, which is 50 laps, will commence on Saturday at 7:30pm, kicking off the evening’s racing program which is headlined by the 150 lap PASS South Super Late Model feature race.
