Following strong Pocono ARCA test, Codie Rohrbaugh readies track debut

LONG POND, Pa. – If you had to take a second peek at the results sheet following Wednesday’s open test session at Pocono (Pa.) Raceway, Codie Rohrbaugh forgives you.

Driving for his family-owned Grant County Mulch Racing (GCMR) team, Rohrbaugh blasted to second quickest in his Pocono (Pa.) Raceway track debut – leaving many to ponder what the impressive rookie still has left for Friday’s General Tire #AnywhereIsPossible 200.

“Man, I’m stoked,” said Rohrbaugh, driver of the No. 7 Grant County Mulch Chevrolet. “Pocono is such a cool place – it’s like a short track, superspeedway and a road course all in one. I had a blast and we have a strong car to boot. I’m hoping for good things in the race on Friday.”

The seventh race of the ARCA season though is a little more about than just getting a good finish. It’s about redemption too.

In their most recent ARCA race at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway last month, Rohrbaugh contended for the win in the General Tire 200, but a late-race fuel stop in overtime forced the team to rally for a 14th place finish – the same spot he finished at Daytona International Speedway in February.

“Talladega was a race where our finish wasn’t an indicator of our performance,” he said. “Our team has worked hard with limited resources and we’ve been able to come to ARCA and have success. No, we haven’t finished inside the top-10, but we’ve run there.

“We hope that changes Friday.”

No matter the outcome though, Rohrbaugh is embracing the diversity and relationships he’s experiencing in ARCA.

“We’ve really settled in,” he said. “We’ve been fortunate enough to make some good friends in the garage and have had the luxury of working with Win-Tron Racing. Those guys are awesome. Mark (Huff), my crew chief is quickly realizing what I needed in these ARCA cars and the adjustments are working with our speed on the race track.

“From Daytona to Talladega to Pocono and Michigan next week, we’re taking each race in with a positive outlook and reasonable goals and expectations. If we have some good results in this two race stretch, we should be able to race more this summer.”

Flux with a presence in the ARCA Racing Series, Rohrbaugh still hopes to compete in a NASCAR K&N Pro Series East race or two in 2017.

“Yeah, that’s still being tossed around,” he said. “We have the cars. Just have to make sure it makes sense for us and everyone at Grant County Mulch. Without them, I would not be here. I’m just grateful to be racing.”

In 13 previous NKNPSE starts, the 23-year-old has a best finish of ninth at Stafford (CT.) Motor Speedway in August 2015. A ninth-place qualifying effort at Bristol Motor Speedway in April 2015 is his best time trials effort to date.

In four ARCA starts, he has a best finish of 13th at Kentucky Speedway after starting a career-best 11th in Sept. 2016.

Marketing partnership opportunities are available for the No. 7 Grant County Mulch Chevrolet for the 2017 ARCA Racing Series and NASCAR K&N Pro Series East seasons and beyond. Interested inquiries are encouraged to contact kyle@gcmulch.com.

The General Tire #AnywhereIsPossible 200 (80 laps / 200 miles) is the eighth of 20 races on the 2017 ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards schedule. Practice begins Fri. June 9 with an hour and 25-minute practice session planned from 9:30 a.m. – 10:55 a.m. General Tire pole qualifying is set for later in the day at 2:00 p.m. The race is set to take the green flag later that day shortly after 5:30 p.m. The event will be broadcasted live on FOX Sports 1 (FS1), while ARCARacing.com will also stream live timing and scoring throughout the day’s activities. All times are local (ET).
