NASCAR K&N Pro Series East Race No. 14, Dover 125

Dover International Speedway, Dover Delaware

Race Information: Event: Dover 125, Friday, Sept. 30 at 5:25 p.m. Local Time Track: Dover International Speedway Qualifying: Friday, Sept. 30 at 12:25 p.m. Local Time Track Length: 1.0-mile high-banked concrete oval.

Welcome To The First State: After a two-week break, the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East resumes action from Dover International Speedway where rookie sensation Dominique Van Wieringen continues to rave in the spotlight and looks for her third consecutive top-five finish in Friday afternoon’s Dover 125.

Last Time Out; New Jersey Motorsports Park: Much like her superb performance at Greenville-Pickens (S.C.) Speedway earlier this month, Van Wieringen backed up that effort with a dominating performance in the JUSTDRIVE.com 125 at New Jersey Motorsports Park.

With a fast car, Van Wieringen bolted from her ninth place starting position to lead 22 laps of the event before fading back on old tires at the end to finish fifth. Her second consecutive top-five effort was also her third top-10 finish in the last four races.

Van Wieringen is also believed to have made K&N Pro Series East history with the best performance by a female competitor on a road course surpassing Kenzie Ruston’s ninth place finish at Watkins Glen (N.Y.) International in 2014.

Rookie Rising: Ontario driver Dominique Van Wieringen finished a career-best third at Greenville, marking the second-best finishing position for a female driver in series history, and she backed that effort up with a fifth-place finish at New Jersey Motorsports Park to give her back-to-back top-five finishes for the first time in her career. Van Wieringen led 22 laps at New Jersey — nearly half the race — before settling for fifth, but her effort has moved her all the way to 10th in the current standings.

Looking To End On High Note: With two top-five finishes in her back pocket, Van Wieringen looks to end her rookie season in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East with her third top-five and fifth top-10 performance of the year. Should Van Wieringen finish inside the top-five, she’ll become the first female competitor to finish inside the top-five for three consecutive races.

The Procedure At Dover: The maximum starting field is 30 cars, including provisionals. The first 26 cars will secure starting positions based on the two-lap qualifying session. The remaining four spots will be awarded through the provisional process. The race will be 125 laps (125 miles) with a five-minute break occurring at or near the conclusion of Lap 65.

Meet Dominique: Dominique Van Wieringen will join her NASCAR K&N Pro Series East colleagues for an autograph session at Dover International Speedway on Friday, Sept. 30 at 1:45 p.m. The autograph session is open to any fan with a ticket to the event.

Record Setter: Looking to become the first NASCAR K&N Pro Series East female racer to win a series’ event, Van Wieringen is making noise of her own this season. Setting the record three times with the best starting position by a female competitor, she also holds the mark for the most laps led in K&N Pro Series East competition with 140 laps led in three races. In the second race of the season at Mobile, she led 30 circuits, before beating that record with a whopping 88 laps led at Stafford (CT.) Motor Speedway in June. In the most recent race, the Canadian led a race-high 22 laps in just her second ever road course race.

Rette Jones Racing x2: For Friday afternoon’s race Rette Jones Racing will field two entries for the 14th race of the season. In addition to Van Wieringen in the team’s flagship No. 30 Durobyte / NTI-UTI Ford Fusion, series veteran Jesse Little will drive the No. 29 NTI / UTI Toyota Camry for his fourth K&N start of 2016.

Little has a season-high third place finish at Mobile (Ala.) International Speedway and enters Dover on a top-10 finish at Iowa Speedway marking a double dose of top-10 finishes for Rette Jones Racing in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East / West combination event.

Back In School: Recently wrapping up her summer classes University of North Carolina Charlotte late last month, Van Wieringen is now back in session for the fall semester while also juggling her Motorsports career with a steady 3.5 grade point average (GPA).

More than a month into classes, Van Wieringen is enjoying her senior year and is studying to become a mechanical engineer.

Proud Partnership: For the 2016 NASCAR K&N Pro Series East season, Rette Jones Racing is proud to welcome a partnership with NASCAR Technical Institute (NTI) and Universal Technical Institute (UTI). Through a campus-based school system, UTI offers specialized technical education programs under the banner of several brands, including NASCAR.

Students will learn everything you need to know to work on a wide variety of vehicles as part of their core training on top of 15 weeks of NASCAR-specific courses to learn racing fundamentals.

She’s Fast: In 13 races this season, Van Wieringen has mastered an average starting position of 7.3, qualifying third, second, 12th, second, 17th, fourth, third, second, 13th, seventh, 12th, ninth and ninth respectively. The phenom holds an average finishing position of 14.5 heading into the final race of the season.

Points Report: With one race remaining on the schedule, Dominique Van Wieringen sits 10th in the championship standings (up from 12th last race), while car owner Mark Rette occupies the same position in the car owner standings. Van Wieringen trails Justin Haley by 151 points for the championship lead. Just 12 markers separate her from ninth place in the standings currently held by John Holleman IV.

Up To Speed With Dominique: Van Wieringen has set many accolades, despite her youth. She was the first female to lead a lap in the CRA / JEGS All-Star Series and the first rookie to win a JEGS / CRA All-Star Series point’s race. In addition, Van Wieringen was the first female to win an Outlaw Super Late Model championship in the United States, while holding the current record at Winchester (Ind.) Speedway for the most laps led (74) by a female competitor.

Female Flavor: The Dover 125 won’t be lacking a female presence on Friday afternoon. Van Wieringen is one of two females set to compete in the 14th race of the season. Joining Van Wieringen is Rev Racing’s Ali Kern. Both females are running for the championship title with Van Wieringen leading the duo in the championship standings by three positions or 26 points.

Sponsorship Lineup: In addition to Durobyte and NASCAR Technical Institute, Rette Jones Racing also welcomes Jones Group International, J-AAR Excavating, Goodridge Fluid Transfer Systems, Pro System Brakes and Russo’s Tinting as associate partners this season. RJR is co-owned by successful entrepreneur and race car driver Terry Jones.

Dover International Speedway Fast Fact: Known as the “Monster Mile,” Dover is an even one-mile concrete oval with banking of nine degrees on the straightaways and 24 degrees in the turns. The track has hosted the K&N Pro Series East 14 times in standalone events and the season finale for the series seven previous times since 2004.

Chassis Intel: Mark Rette, crew chief and co-owner of Rette Jones Racing will debut chassis number 001 to the 1.0-mile paved oval this weekend. This Ford Fusion is appearing in its 13th race of competition. This chassis was last utilized at Greenville-Pickens Speedway earlier this month guiding Van Wieringen to her career-best third place finish.

Rette Jones Racing, Dover International Speedway, Pre-Race Quotes: Dominique Van Wieringen, driver of the No. 30 Durobyte / NTI-UTI Ford Fusion:

On New Jersey Motorsports Park: “I was so proud of our Rette Jones Racing team at New Jersey Motorsports Park. We worked extremely hard on the setup of our car and even though we didn’t qualify as high as we would have liked to – the car was a rocket at the start of the race.

“As the race went on, we stretched out our lead but during the second half of the race, tire conservation became a prime and we just didn’t have enough to hang on for the lead or a podium finish. Still, we improved from our qualifying spot, led laps and finished inside the top-five. I can’t ask for much more than that.”

On Dover International Speedway: “I’m ecstatic to go to Dover this weekend. I’ve heard so much about the place and from every driver I talk to – they love the place. I hope the same goes for me. Mark (Rette, crew chief and co-car owner) says he has a really good setup – so we just need to get out there in practice make some gains and hope for the best for the race.”

On Rookie Season: “Over the past couple of months, we’ve really had the breaks that we needed to showcase what our team is capable of. We’ve had fast cars all year long and for one reason or another – obstacles would keep us from delivering good finish.

Since Iowa in August, we’ve really found a good niche, I think I’ve earned more respect on the race track and it’s paid off with strong finishes. I want to go to Dover and do what I’ve been doing the last couple weeks and hope that strategy pays off with another top-five run.”

Rette Jones Racing, Dover International Speedway, Pre-Race Quotes: Mark Rette, mentor and co-owner of the No. 30 Durobyte / NTI-UTI Ford Fusion:

On New Jersey Motorsports Park“Dominique stepped up to the plate at New Jersey and came out swinging. We were pretty good and she made us exceptional from the moment the green flag dropped. No, we didn’t get the win – but that’s OK, with time they will come. I’m proud of what she’s accomplished in just her second road course race and it will be a race we all won’t soon forget.”

On Dover International Speedway: “Dover can be a difficult track, but I think Dominique will adapt to it just fine. Some can compare it to a Bristol Motor Speedway on steroids. That’s a fair assumption. Dominque ran very well at Bristol; we just ran out of laps. I know where we need to start on Friday setup wise, if it fits Dominique’s driving style – it should put us in great shape to end the season with a great result.”

RESULTS:

Dominique Van Wieringen, Dover NKNPSE Performance Record:
