Jamaica, VA – Fifty-five of the best Chevrolet Performance Late Models converged on Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway to decide a World Champion in the $15,000 to win Aaron’s FASTRAK World Championship presented by James River Equipment and Commonwealth Motorsports. In what can only be called and epic finish Dennis Franklin of Gaffney, SC held off 24th starting Devin Moran of Dresdin, OH and 19 year-old Ryan Montgomery of Fairmont, WV in a three wide race to the checkers to take home the $15,000 victory and become the first repeat World Champion in the sanctions 14 year history.

“I can’t thank my crew enough for giving me such an awesome race car tonight, to win this race for the second time is unbelievable and to do it in front of such enthusiastic fans is a bonus,” commented Franklin in victory lane.

It took a couple of tries but Friday night’s World Challenge winner Ryan Montgomery and Henry Hornsby III led the 27 car field to green. Hornsby would grab the lead out of turn 4 with Montgomery to his inside. The two teenagers battled side by side for 16 laps before Montgomery finally wrestled the spot away. Behind them Dennis Franklin and Jensen Ford battled for third with Franklin finally taking it on lap 17. On the next lap Franklin joined the race for the lead and went three wide with Montgomery and Hornsby for the top spot. On lap 18 Franklin took over second and went to work on the leader. Montgomery kept Franklin at bay in heavy traffic and finally succumbed to Franklin’s advances giving up the lead on lap 35.

The fastest car on the track at lap 35 was Devin Moran who had worked his way from twenty-fourth to grab 7th. Behind Franklin Montgomery and Tyler wrestled over second and got inside Franklin for a 3-wide battle for the lead on several laps. The races last caution on lap 52 set up an eight lap dash for the cash. Once under green Moran worked his way to third by lap 54, that’s when the excitement began to happen. With the fans on their feet Franklin, Montgomery and Moran battled three wide for the final five laps. Coming to the checkers three wide Franklin held off Moran who got under Montgomery for second and came with a few feet off stealing the win. But Franklin held on to grab the $15,000 victory and become the first repeat winner in the events 14 year history.

Rounding out the top five were Moran, Montgomery, Ross Bailes and Cla Knight.

In other action former NASCAR star David Stremme of Mooresville, NC passed Chris Arnold for the lead on lap 21 and then went on to score the victory in the $3000 to win Southeast Modified Showdown for the Southeast Dirt Modified Series. Derrick Ramey of Mooresville, NC was crowned the series Champion in a tight points battle over Taylor Cook of Stanley, NC.

Chris Arnold and Ryan Ayers led the Modified field to green with Arnold taking over the top spot and David Stremme following to second. Arnold would pace the field for the first 20 circuits before jumping the cushion in turn 2 to allow Stremme to get by for the lead. Once out front Stremme stretched out his lead on the field while Arnold worked to keep Ayers and Taylor Cook at bay for second. Stremme would go on to win by a 3.063 second margin. Rounding out the top five were Arnold, Ayers, Cook and former NASCAR star David Reutiman.
