Southboston, Va. --

South Boston Speedway officials announced a weather-related change to the remainder of the 2014 schedule this week.

Due to a pair of events being rained out earlier this season, South Boston Speedway will run twin 75-lap races for the drivers in the NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car Division for the remainder of the 2014 campaign.

Twin 75-lap events for the NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car Division were already scheduled as part of the Southern Virginia Higher Education NASCAR Late Model Twin 75’s racing program on Aug. 2. Twin 75’s were already scheduled for August 16th and September 13th for the Late Model Division.

With the announcement this week, twin 75-lap events for the NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car Division will also be run during the speedway’s scheduled racing programs on Aug. 9 and Aug. 30 in order to make up events that have been rained out earlier in the season.

The NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car Division will offer up the featured attractions of the Southern Virginia Higher Education NASCAR Late Model Twin 75’s racing program on Aug. 2. The first race of the night will get underway at 7 p.m.

Rounding out the five events scheduled on Saturday, Aug. 2 will be events for the Limited Sportsman Division, the Budweiser Pure Stock Division and the Champ Karts.

Emergency Services Personnel will be honored at the Saturday, Aug. 2 event at South Boston Speedway and will be admitted for the special price of $5 per person with proper identification.

Peyton Sellers, a former NASCAR Whelen All American Series national champion and a five-time winner this season at the historic four-tenths mile asphalt oval, sits atop the point standings in the NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car Division standings.

Austin Thaxton is second in the title chase and is only three points ahead of third-place Matt Bowling, who is a former track champion at America’s Hometown Track.

Josh Oakley is fourth in the standings and is only four points ahead of Bruce Anderson, who is coming off a victory last weekend at South Boston Speedway.

The fight for the championship in the Limited Sportsman Division remains tight as only three points separate the top two competitors in the division.

Defending division champion Danny Willis Jr., a one-time winner this season, vaulted into first place after last weekend’s event. Willis is three points ahead of second-place J.D. Eversole.

Trey Crews, who was leading the points chase heading into last weekend, dropped to third place. He is 12 points behind Eversole. Tommy Peregoy and Bob Davis round out the top five contenders in the title chase.

Greg Autry owns a 24-point cushion atop the Budweiser Pure Stock Division standings over Bruce Mayo. Johnny Layne and Harrison Walker are currently tied for third in the division, only two points ahead of fifth-place Jimmy Wade.

Pit gates will open on Saturday, Aug. 2 at 2 p.m. and practice for all divisions will beheld from 3:30 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. Qualifying time trials will roll off at 5:30 p.m. Grandstand gates will open 5 p.m.

Admission will be $10 for adults. Children, ages six and under, will be admitted free with a paid adult.
