Sparks fly in Caraway Speedways Anual Crash and Burn Night of Destruction

Sophia, N.C. --

(Asheboro, NC) Saturday night was a wild one at Asheboro's Caraway Speedway as the track played hosted Crash and Burn Night of Destruction, an event where rules and caution are thrown to the wind as Caraway regulars and newcomers alike participate in events ranging from a demolition derby, to reverse and trailer races! The track was packed with fans on hand to witness the carnage and cheer on their favorite drivers.

The night started off in a traditional fashion with a handful of our typical race divisions putting on a great show on the .455 mile oval, The Legends Cars were the first to do battle in their 25 lap feature, which saw Brandon McKenzie bringing home yet another win in his number 5 machine.

Next on tap was the 50 lap feature for the Late Model Truck division. Billy Hogan put his number 2 truck on the pole and stayed there, leading from flag to flag holding off a very hard charging Allen Vance in the closing laps. Vance came from the rear to finish second.

Gene Kepley was 3rd, Clint Fields 4th, and Brandon Wrisley finished in the 5th spot.

The Street Stock division put on an excellent show with some really hard racing for the top spot between Bobby Grimes, Jeremy Clay, and Chuck Isom. Isom led the race in its early stages before an incident coming off of turn number 4 involving Grimes handed the lead over to your race winner Jeremy Clay. Isom rebounded to finish 2nd, Bobby Wade was 3rd, Randy McAnulty 4th, and David Earnhartt 5th.

It was then time for the first of 3 School Bus races of the night. Buddy Allred and Gene Kepley put on one of the best performances of the night as they traded a little more than just paint. Allred, who was in a Camper rather than a bus, scattered debris from one end of the speedway to the other as he continually worked the high line around the speedway, making heavy contact with the wall numerous times, Gene Kepley was your winner, followed closely by Allred in 2nd, Carl Auman was 3rd, and Mack Little III was 4th.

The Hornet division was next up, where Gary Dillard made another trip to victory lane in his number 95 car. Tommy Raino gave Dillard a real run for his money throughout the race, and came home second. Guy Bralley, (father of Zack Bralley who normaly pilots the number 92 machine) came in 3rd after coming out of retirement for his first race in several seasons. Robert Burgess was 4th, and Brian Melville rounded out the top 5.

School Bus #2 the field was inverted, but there was no stopping Gene Kepley, he charged through the field, making it look easy on his way to win number two of the night. Carl Auman and Buddy Allred did everything they could to stop Kepley, but it simply wasn't enough. Auman and Allred finished 2nd and 4th. Mack Little III was 3rd, gaining the spot after Allred once again pummeled the fence in what was left of his camper. Mack Little Jr. rounded out the field.

The Ucar division put on a great race between the seasons two front runners, Sean Grant and Corey Rose. Rose worked his way to the front in a hurry in the races opening laps, but Grant wasn't letting him off that easy, Grant charged around Rose for the top spot and held on for the win. Jimmy Cooper was 3rd, Jimmy Crigger 4th, and Johnny Warr 5th.

The final bus race of the night was one for the books, Buddy Allred dominated as he drove his camper around the high line of the speedway, hitting everything he could get to.

Allred was "Driving like a wild man" said race one and two winner Gene Kepley. Allred won the race, "The crew did a little work, made some adjustments and really got it hooked up" Allred said in his post race interview. Carl Auman was 2nd, Gene Kepley 3rd, and Mack Little III was 4th.

Winners for the other events were Charlie Payne – Reverse Race, Timothy Clay – Tire Race, Jimmy Crigger – Trailer Race and Scottie Crigger Demolition Derby.

Up next is the Southeast Limited Late Model event on Wednesday July 2nd feature 100 Lap SELLM Pro event, 50 Lap Trucks, 40 Lap Streets, U-Car, Hornets and Legends. Gates Open at 6pm and the action gets underway at 8pm.

On Friday July 4th it’s the 8th Annual Rusty Harpe Memorial presented by Daggett Shuler
