Update - Preseason Practice to kick off on Saturday Thursday, March 16, 2006

Hampton, Va. --

NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series at Langley Speedway - Hampton, VA

In astronomical terms, spring won’t officially arrive until next Monday, March 20. Langley Speedway and its competitors, however, will be doing their best to help chase “Old Man Winter” away a couple days early when preseason open practice for the track’s upcoming 2006 NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series campaign gets under way this Saturday, March 18.
Saturday’s session will run from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. and all cars must clear technical and safety inspections before heading onto the Speedway.
Pit entry is $20 with the appropriate competition license (NASCAR, INEX or Langley Speedway) and $30 without a license. Licenses will be sold during the session. There is no charge to watch practice from the grandstand.
Additional open practice rounds are slated for Saturday, March 25 (Media Day), and Saturday, April 1, in advance of Opening Night ‘06 on Saturday, April 8. The March 25 and April 1 sessions will also run from 10 ‘til 4.
• • •
Along with Media Day activities on March 25, the Speedway will also be hosting the “Inaugural Spring Parts Swap & Flea Market Sale” from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Racing equipment of all descriptions and non-racing items will be accepted for sale.
The fee for display space is $20. For more information about securing your spot, call the Speedway office at (757) 865-RACE.

On the sponsorship front, Crossroads Fuel Service will team with area Sunoco dealers to back Langley’s featured Late Model division in 2006. They join B&C Seafood (Modifieds) and Dunkum’s Machine Shop (Grand Stock co-sponsor) as new members of the track’s family of supporters.
Returning sponsors include Super 8 Motels (Grand Stock co-sponsor), NTELOS Wireless (Super Streets), Cook’s Moving Service (INEX Legends) and E-Z Auto Rental (UCARs and Hard Charger Award).
Division sponsorship deals for the Super Trucks (formerly Mini Trucks) and the new Wolf Trucks are pending with announcements expected soon.
While the roster of division sponsors for ‘06 is nearly complete, many exciting sponsorship opportunities are still available at the track — billboards, banner and display spaces, race nights, program ads, etc. To learn more, contact Michael Hill at (757) 865-RACE.

According to a February press release, NASCAR is widening the Dodge Weekly Series points window a bit for the new season. In years past, the NASCAR points chase has wrapped up in early- to mid-September. This year, race results through Oct. 1 will count in the divisional and national championship tabulations.
Like last season, drivers in a track’s featured class (the Crossroads Fuel Service/Sunoco Dealers Late Models at Langley) will collect NASCAR points — kept separately from the track’s own points — for each race in which they compete during the NASCAR points season. The driver accumulating the most NASCAR points at a track will be that track’s representative on the divisional leaderboard.
For the purposes of determining the divisional champ, the best 16 finishes of each track’s representative will be taken into account. For the track leaders, finishes in the featured class at other tracks within the same NASCAR division will also be considered in establishing their best 16 outings. Once the divisional champions are crowned, their records are compared to arrive at the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series national champ.
When it came to getting in their minimum of 16 races, weather and other outside factors posed little problem for Langley’s Late Model drivers in 2005. Other tracks weren’t as fortunate, however, leading some promoters to employ unconventional (and sometimes financially unwise) scheduling strategies to aid their drivers.
By pushing back the end of its points season by a couple weeks, NASCAR is offering track owners across the country some much-needed “wiggle room” in planning their events.

Starting soon, Langley Speedway will be offering an e-newsletter. Fans may register at the track’s Web site — www.langley-speedway.com.

Langley Speedway’s April 8 opener may be fast approaching, but there’s still time to secure your season pass for all the action. Grandstand passes are $200 — $50 off the regular price. Skybox passes are $600 — a savings of $150. Trackside RV parking spots are available for $650.
Call the Speedway office at (757) 865-RACE for more details.

A longtime member of the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series, Langley Speedway is a .395-mile, slightly-banked oval. The track is located at 11 Dale Lemonds Dr., off North Armistead Ave., in Hampton, Va.
To learn more about Langley Speedway and its upcoming 2006 season, fans may call the Speedway office at (757) 865-RACE or visit the track’s Web site — www.langley-speedway.com.
