Stars will shine Thursday night when SoBo hosts the Denny Hamlin Short Track Showdown

The stars will shine Thursday night at America’s Hometown Track when South Boston Speedway hosts the Denny Hamlin Short Track Showdown.
South Boston Speedway will host the Denny Hamlin Short Track Showdown, which benefits the Denny Hamlin Cystic Fibrosis Research Lab at the Children’s Hospital of Richmond, Va. at Virginia Commonwealth University, on Thursday, April 24.
Advance tickets are on sale and priced at $20 for adults, and $10 for youth ages 12-17. Children ages 11 and under will be admitted free with a paying adult. Race day ticket prices will be $25 for adults and $15 for youth.
The Denny Hamlin Short Track Showdown features a collection of NASCAR stars and local Late Model Stock Car stars racing for pride and to raise awareness and funding for the Denny Hamlin Foundation, which supports Cystic Fibrosis Research. The event is held as a weekday prelude to the weekend of NASCAR races at Richmond International Speedway.
The invitees will compete against some of NASCAR’s racing superstars, including Kyle Busch, Matt Kenseth, Denny Hamlin, Timothy Peters and others.
The entry list as of Monday included 49 competitors. The invitees include top five Late Model Stock Car finishers from last year’s race at Richmond International Raceway, top finishers from the Virginia is for Racing Lovers 300 at Martinsville Speedway and top finishers in the NASCAR Whelen All American Series points for Virginia.
Among the entries expected for the event are former national champion Keith Rocco; NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series competitor Jeb Burton; former NASCAR Sprint Cup Series competitor Hermie Sadler; 2010 winner of the short track showdown C.E. Falk; Austin Thaxton; Curtis Markham and many others.
Grandstand gates will open at 10 a.m. Thursday, and practice for drivers will be held from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. Final practice and qualifying time trials are scheduled to get cranked up at 5:30 p.m. Qualifying races will roll to the green flag at 6:30 p.m. and the 200-lap Denny Hamlin Short Track Showdown is scheduled to get cranked up at approximately 8 p.m.
