Late Model bounty will grow to $1,000 Late Model Twin 75’s get the green flag Aug. 3

South Boston, Va. --

SOUTH BOSTON, VA. — South Boston Speedway will sit idle this weekend, but action-packed racing will return to the historic four-tenths mile asphalt oval on Saturday, Aug. 3.

America’s Hometown Track will host the Gazette-Virginian Late Model Twin 75’s racing program on Saturday, Aug. 3. The first of five NASCAR Whelen All American Series events that night will get the green flag at 7 p.m.

The featured attractions of the night will be a pair of 75-lap races for the drivers in the NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car Division.

Since Lee Pulliam, the current leader in the NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car Division standings at South Boston Speedway, notched his 11th victory of the season at America’s Hometown Track the bounty that was put in place on him will continue to grow on Aug. 3.

Pulliam, the defending NASCAR Whelen All American Series national champion, currently has 17 overall triumphs for the season and owns a sizable lead in the title chase at South Boston Speedway.

Prior to last weekend’s event, South Boston Speedway General Manager Cathy Rice announced that a $500 bounty would be awarded to the driver who could score a victory over Pulliam.

Pulliam won last weekend’s event in exciting fashion over Bobby McCarty, therefore, the bounty will grow to $1,000 for the first 75-lap event on Aug. 3.

Rice noted earlier that Pulliam must still be competing at the end of the race for a driver to claim the bounty, and she added that Pulliam can also claim the bounty if he elects to start from the rear of the field and attempt to work his way to the front to score his 12th victory of the campaign.

Pulliam currently leads in the chase for the NASCAR Whelen All American Series national championship. He is eight points ahead of second-place Deac McCaskill.

Bobby McCarty is in second place in the NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car Division standings at South Boston Speedway. He is 42 points ahead of Austin Thaxton. Dustin Storm is fourth in the standings and is just 10 points behind Thaxton.

Former multi-time NASCAR Whelen All American Series national champion Philip Morris rounds out the top five in the standings. He is six points behind Storm.

Also scheduled Saturday night will be races for the Limited Sportsman Division, the Budweiser Pure Stock Division and an event for the drivers in the touring Legendary Ford Flatheads Racing Association.

Danny Willis Jr. has opened up a comfortable lead in the chase for the Limited Sportsman Division crown. Garrett Bunch is second in the standings and is 16 points ahead of third-place Blake Stallings.

Tommy Peregoy is fourth in the Limited Sportsman title chase. He is 13 points behind Stallings and seven points ahead of fifth-place Michael Maresca.

In the Budweiser Pure Stock Division, Joe Allred, who is coming off a pair of wins last weekend, owns a 32-point advantage over second-place Stuart Crews. Austin Milam is third in the standings. He is 22 points behind Crews.

Randy Hupp sits in fourth place in the Budweiser Pure Stock Division standings. He is 12 points ahead of fifth-place Bruce Mayo.

Pit gates will open Saturday, Aug. 3 at 1 p.m. and practice for all divisions will be held from 3 p.m. until 4:30 p.m.

Grandstand gates will open Saturday, Aug. 3 at 5 p.m. and qualifying time trials to set the starting grids for the day of racing will roll off at 5:30 p.m.

Admission will be $10 for adults and children six and under will be admitted free with a paid adult.

For more information visit the track's website or phone the track at (434) 572-4947 or toll free at 1-877-440-1540.
