South Boston Speedway News

SouthBoston, VA --

Lights! Cameras! Hot Racing Action!

The event billed by many as the biggest of each and every racing season at South Boston Speedway is scheduled for Wednesday, July 3.

America’s Hometown Track is set and ready to host the Dr. & Mrs. Maresca of St. Lawrence Radiology presents Sellers Construction 200 racing program.

The Dr. & Mrs. Maresca of St. Lawrence Radiology presents Sellers Construction 200 will feature three big money races, the biggest names in the region in short track racing and a fireworks extravaganza at the close of the night.

The first race of the night is scheduled to get the green flag at 7 p.m.

The featured attraction of the night will be a 200-lap shootout for the competitors in the NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car Division.

The entry list for the 200-lap Late Model Stock Car event will feature a virtual “Who’s Who” list of contenders for the victory.

Among the contenders for the win Saturday night will be defending NASCAR Whelen All-American Series national champion Lee Pulliam, who is atop the standings in his bid for a second consecutive national crown.

Also scheduled to battle for the victory are former NASCAR Whelen All American Series national champions Philip Morris, a multi-time national title holder, and Peyton Sellers.

Timothy Peters, who currently competes in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series and is a former South Boston Speedway champion, will also be among the star-studded field of drivers Saturday night.

Pulliam is also the current leader in the chase for the 2013 NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car Division championship at South Boston Speedway. He owns nine victories at the historic four-tenths mile asphalt oval this year and has opened a comfortable cushion over second-place Bobby McCarty.

Dustin Storm is third in the point standings, 22 points behind McCarty, and eight ahead of fourth-place Morris. Austin Thaxton rounds out the top five in the standings. He is 10 points behind Morris.

Also scheduled as part of the night of racing will be a 100-lap race for the drivers in the Limited Sportsman Division, and a 50-lap shootout for the competitors in the Budweiser Pure Stock Division.

Danny Willis Jr. enters the Limited Sportsman Division atop the championship standings. Garrett Bunch is second and is seven points ahead of third-place Blake Stallings. Tommy Peregoy is 10 points back in fourth place. He is 11 points ahead of fifth-place Michael Maresca.

Joe Allred has opened an 11-point lead over second-place Stuart Crews in the Budweiser Pure Stock Division standings. Austin Milam is third and is 12 points behind Crews and 12 ahead of fourth-place Randy Hupp.

The Wednesday night of racing will be preceded by a Fan Appreciation Session trackside at 5:30 p.m.

At the close of the evening, the annual South Boston Speedway Fireworks Extravaganza will be held and will once again light up the skies over the four-tenths mile asphalt oval with the best fireworks display in the area.

The 200-lap race for the drivers in the NASCAR Whelen All American Series Late Model Stock Car Division will also serve as the first event in the Virginia Late Model Triple Crown.

Once again this year, South Boston Speedway has teamed with Langley Speedway and Martinsville Speedway to offer the unique racing tripleheader.

The Virginia Late Model Triple Crown consists of the July 3 event at South Boston Speedway, the July 27 Hampton Heat 200 at Langley Speedway and the Virginia is for Lovers 300 on Oct. 6 at Martinsville Speedway.

In addition to the big-money purses at each of the three events, the driver with the highest point total among the three racers will win the Virginia Late Model Triple Crown title and an additional $5,000. The runner-up in the three-race point battle will receive $3,000, and the third-place driver will collect $1,500.

Advance tickets for Dr. & Mrs. Maresca of St. Lawrence Radiology presents Sellers Construction 200 are currently on sale and priced at $15 for adults. Advance tickets can be purchased by contacting South Boston Speedway office through Tuesday, July 2. Tickets on the day of the race will be priced at $20.

Pit registration will begin at 11 a.m. on July 3. Practice for all divisions will be held from 1:30 p.m. until 3 p.m. and qualifying time trials will get underway at 4 p.m. Grandstand gates will open at 3:30 p.m.
