Hampton, Va. --
A veritable smorgasbord of motorsports action is planned for this Saturday, Oct. 1, as local Dodge dealers help Langley Speedway bring down the curtain on its 2005 campaign with a nine-race, 290-lap slate.
The feature lineup includes: Chick-fil-A Late Models (75 laps); Super 8 Motels Grand Stocks (40 laps); nTelos Super Streets (50 laps); Hillco Building Maintenance Mini Trucks (25 laps); Cook’s Moving Service INEX Legends (25 laps); E-Z Auto Rental U-Cars (25 laps); Affordable Marine Services Mini Cups (20 laps); HRKC Winged Pro Champ Karts (20 laps); and, Full Throttle Wolfpack Trucks (10 laps). Also, the folks from Hobbytown USA will be on hand for an exhibition with their stable of remote-controlled vehicles. Saturday’s event will be broadcast live on WLRT 1490 AM — “The Outlaw” — and via the Internet at www.RaceTalkLive.com.
Gates open at 12 noon and practice gets under way at 1:30 p.m. Time trials begin at 4, while the first feature event goes green at 6. (Note the earlier-than-usual start time.)
Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children, 6-12. “Little Race Fans” (under 6) are admitted free when accompanied by an adult. Also, there’s no charge for military members in uniform. “Family Packs,” which include two adult and two children’s tickets, are $25 — a savings of $5. Skybox seats are available for $25 apiece. There is no charge for parking.

Langley’s final “test and tune” session of the season is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 29. Pit gates open at 4 p.m. and practice rounds run from 5 ‘til dark. Pit admission is $10 with a valid NASCAR, INEX or Langley Speedway license. For those without a current competition license, entry into the pit area is $20. There is no charge for grandstand admission.
A summary of practice actitivities will be available at www.langley-speedway.com on Thursday evening. In the menu on the homepage, click on “Results,” then follow the appropriate link. Practice results will be posted to the Web site shortly after the session ends.

The barely-controlled mayhem that is “Extreme Sports Wednesday” will continue through Oct. 12. Langley’s popular mid-week program features 1-on-1 drag races, burnout competitions, “Time Attacks” (solo runs against the clock) and grudge matches.
Gates open at 5:30 p.m. and the fun gets under way at 7. Pit admission is $15 and general admission grandstand tickets are $8. Kids under 6 are admitted free to the grandstands when accompanied by an adult.

Late Model driver Shawn Balluzzo was recently voted Langley Speedway’s 2005 Craftsman Mechanic of the Year Award winner. For his efforts, he received a cash prize of $100 and a $350 tool credit at Sears. Congratulations, Shawn!

Just because the racing season is coming to a close, that doesn’t mean that things will be totally quiet at 11 Dale Lemonds Dr. on Saturdays.
On Oct. 8, the Tidewater Mopar Club will hold “Mopar Madness” — its annual fall car show — at the Speedway. The show runs from 9 a.m. ‘til 3 p.m. and general admission tickets are $5.
The track will host the “Inaugural Parts Swap & Flea Market Sale” on Saturday, Oct. 15, from 9 a.m. ‘til 3 p.m. There will be a $25 fee for sellers. For more information, call the Speedway office at (757) 865-RACE.

Langley Speedway will celebrate its 2005 season on Saturday, Oct. 29, with the Annual Awards Banquet. The event, which promises to be a lavish affair, will be held at the new Hampton Roads Convention Center in Hampton.
Tickets, which include dinner, the awards presentation and dancing, are $45 each. For more information or to reserve your seats, call Sandra Emerson in the Speedway office at (757) 865-RACE or stop by during business hours.

A longtime member of the NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series, Langley Speedway is a .395-mile, slightly-banked oval. The track is located at 11 Dale Lemonds Dr., off Armistead Ave., in Hampton, Va.
