Mother Nature to provide ideal conditions for CenturyLink Late Model 150 Saturday at SoBo
May 2, 2013 - updated May 2nd, 2013 7:21pm
Web posted by Tim Chandler

SouthBoston, VA --

After a week of dismal and rainy weather, Mother Nature appears ready to cooperate with NASCAR short track racing fans.

The extended forecast for South Boston, Va. for Saturday, May 4 calls for mostly sunny skies and a high temperature near 70 degrees. That will set the stage for outstanding conditions for the running of the CenturyLink NASCAR Whelen Late Model 150 racing program Saturday evening at America’s Hometown Track.

Five events are on tap Saturday night as part of the CenturyLink NASCAR Whelen Late Model 150 racing program. The competitors in the first race of the night will roar to the starting grid at 7 p.m.

The featured attraction of the night will be a 150-lap shootout for the competitors in the NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car Division. The field of Late Model Stock Car Division drivers at the historic four-tenths mile asphalt oval has been impressive in 2013 and should be again this weekend.

Defending NASCAR Whelen All American Series national champion Lee Pulliam will be on hand Saturday trying to secure his sixth victory of the season at America’s Hometown Track. In his opening seven races of the campaign, Pulliam has reeled off five victories and two runner-up finishes.

Pulliam’s strong start to the season has put him atop the standings in the chase for the 2013 South Boston Speedway NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car Division championship.

Bobby McCarty is second in the Late Model standings, while former multi-time NASCAR Whelen All American Series national champion Philip Morris is third in the point standings. Morris is only four points behind McCarty in the battle for the runner-up spot.

One-time winner C.E. Falk is currently in fourth place. Falk only trails Morris by seven points and he is only a trio of points ahead of fifth-place Dustin Storm.

Other events slated as part of the CenturyLink NASCAR Whelen Late Model 150 racing program on Saturday will be a pair of clashes for the drivers in the Limited Sportsman Division. The competitors in the Budweiser Pure Stock Division and the Modified Division will also be in action Saturday night.

Danny Willis Jr. has roared to three triumphs thus far in 2013 and he has garnered a 47-point lead in his bid for a division championship.

Garrett Bunch is second in the Limited Sportsman Division standings. Bunch is six points ahead of third-place Mark Simpson, while Blake Stallings is fourth in the standings and only trails Simpson by seven points.

Randy Hupp is the points leader in the Budweiser Pure Stock Division standings. Hupp is six points ahead of a second-place tie between multi-time winner Joe Allred and Stuart Crews.

Tanner Rumberg has the lead in the Modified Division standings. Rumberg is eight points ahead of second-place Chris Johnson and nine points ahead of third-place Mike Johnson.

Pit gates will open Saturday at 1 p.m. and practice for all divisions will be held from 3 p.m. until 4:30 p.m.

Grandstand gates will open Saturday at 5 p.m. and qualifying time trials to set the starting grids for the day of racing will roll off at 5:30 p.m.

Admission will be $10 for adults and children under the age of six will be admitted free with a paid adult.

For more information visit the track's website or phone the track at (434) 572-4947 or toll free at 1-877-440-1540.
