PASS Points Races Down To The Wire Heading To Concord’s Thanksgiving Classic/Mason Dixon Meltdown

Concord, NC. --

For Immediate Release

CHARLOTTE, NC (November 15) – Since 2006, the Thanksgiving Classic/Mason Dixon Meltdown has been one of the most anticipated events of the year for fans of the Pro All Stars Series (PASS) Super Late Models.  Fans and racers will cap off the Thanksgiving holiday weekend by traveling to Concord (NC) Speedway in the heart of stock car racing country.  And once again, they will see the PASS National and PASS South championships decided on the tough triangular half-mile speed plant.  The PASS National Championship is down to two of the best in the business, two-time National Champion Ben Rowe and North Carolina veteran Jay Fogleman.  After last weekend’s North South Shootout at Caraway Speedway, PASS National points took a 30 point swing following a tough afternoon for Rowe and a win by Fogleman.  Rowe struggled to a 16th place finish after being involved in an accident with Jordan Anderson.  Fogleman now enjoys a 15 point advantage over Rowe, but he is far from content to ride around and collect points.  After all, he can’t be.  While he has a slight cushion over Rowe, he trails Kyle Grissom by just four points for the PASS South championship heading to tough triangle.

“I’m looking forward to it, I’ve always liked going to Concord,” said Fogleman.  “Last year we went there with a 10 point advantage over Ryan Blaney, had a flat tire, and didn’t get a chance to race for the PASS South championship.  So anything can happen and we’ll just go out there and race as hard as we can and see what happens.”
For Kyle Grissom, you might say his season hit a snag in September. The beginning of the month had many thinking Grissom was going to cruise relatively easy to his first PASS South championship.  He took his record tying fifth win of the season at Caraway Speedway in the Labor Day Classic and looked to be nearly unbeatable.  But, in the three races since that win at Caraway, Grissom has lost points to his nearest championship rivals.  Again at Caraway, but this time in the North South Shootout, Grissom raced solidly in the top five and appeared to be on his way to a good finish.  But, contact between he and Brandon Ward late in the race sent Grissom spinning to an 11th place finish.  Now with just a scant four point lead over Fogleman and only 16 points separating the top four in points, Grissom knows the stakes are high heading to the Thanksgiving Classic/Mason Dixon Meltdown.
"It's just going come down to who is the best and doesn't have any bad luck," said Grissom, who won at Concord back in May.  "We have hit a string of bad luck the last two races and now we basically have to be perfect in this final race."
After digging his way out of an early season deficit, Preston Peltier finds himself with a chance to win his second PASS South championship.  The 2010 champion has two wins this season and is just six points behind Grissom after a fifth place finish in the North South Shootout.  And, for Peltier, you could not find a much better place to race for the championship than Concord Speedway.  Peltier started his Super Late Model racing career at Concord in the Big 10 Series and is a former track champion there.  As per usual at Concord, Peltier knows fans will definitely have an exciting end to the Thanksgiving weekend.
"You can't count out any of those guys, we're all good at Concord," said Peltier.  "It's been a hard fought fight all year long and I'm sure there will be some fireworks before it's all done."
And sitting in the wings, racing hard and watching everything that is going on, will be Brandon Ward.  The New Day Motorsports driver and his veteran team have been perhaps the most pleasant surprise of 2012.  The team has raced with PASS since 2006 and Ward was able to score their first two victories this year at Wake County (NC) Speedway and Anderson (SC) Motor Speedway.  Ward led the points during the Summer and now sits fourth in points, just 16 points behind Grissom.
“This PASS South points race has been really close all year, so the fact that anyone in the top four can win in the last race at Concord doesn’t surprise me at all,” said Ward.  “This has been one of the closest points battles that I have ever been a part of and just proves how tough the competition is this year.”
And one could argue that the momentum which has carried the #62 team through this season all started at Concord in last year's Thanksgiving Classic/Mason Dixon Meltdown.  Ward led the race late and eventually finished fifth.  A fact not lost on him when it comes to his chances at winning the championship.
“As a team, we treat this like any other race,” Ward continued.  “We are going to try and win the race and let the points fall however they will.  I’m very proud of the effort my guys on this kpmoto.com team have made all year and I know they are excited to get back to Concord.”
Action gets under way Friday afternoon, November 23rd with rotating practice for the PASS South Super Late Models and PASS Pro Late Models from 1:30 PM to 4:30 PM.  On Saturday, November 24th rotating practice starts at 10 am, with qualifying at 12 Noon, the PASS Pro Late Models debut with a 75 lapper at 1:30 PM and Thanksgiving Classic/Mason Dixon Meltdown will go green for 200 laps 2:45 PM.  Fans who bring one unwrapped toy to the races will get $5 off their general admission ticket.  For more information, please go to ProAllStarsSeries.com.  For technical information on any PASS division, please contact Scott Reed at 207-625-3230.  For marketing or media related questions, please contact Alan Dietz at alandietzpass@live.com or 704-231-2039.  And, be sure to “Like” the Pro All Stars Series on Facebook.
