Crucial night for Limited Sportsman title highlights NASCAR Whelen Late Model 150 race program Saturday at SoBo

SOUTH BOSTON, VA. — While the featured attraction of the evening at South Boston Speedway on Saturday, July 21 will be a 150-lap race for the drivers in the NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car Division, many eyes will also be focused on twin battles for the Limited Sportsman Division.

America’s Hometown Track is returning to action for the second straight week Saturday night for the running of the NASCSAR Whelen Late Model 150 racing program. The first of six events scheduled Saturday will get the green flag at 7 p.m.

With the end of July nearing, the twin races for the Limited Sportsman Division Saturday night could play a key role in who wins the 2012 championship.

Heading into Saturday’s action, there are only five points separating current leader Bobby McCarty and Danny Willis, Jr. McCarty has scored four wins on the four-tenths asphalt oval this season, and Willis has motored to Victory Lane five times.

Blake Stallings is third in the standings, while Mike Jones owns the fourth spot in the standings.

One-time winner Matthew Bowling continues to sit atop the standings in the chase for the 2012 NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car Division championship. Bowling leads seven-time winner Lee Pulliam by 18 points.

Pulliam jumped to the top of the standings in the chase for the 2012 NASCAR Whelen All American Series national title this week. Pulliam, who owns 12 victories overall this season, is one point ahead of C.E. Falk in the national standings and 17 ahead of former national title winner Keith Rocco.

Bowling is 10th in the NASCAR Whelen All American Series national championship standings and third in the standings for the state of Virginia.

Peyton Sellers sits in third place in the South Boston Speedway championship chase. Sellers, who has two victories this season, is 17 points behind Pulliam. Sellers is fourth in the NASCAR Whelen All American Series standings for Virginia.

Other events scheduled Saturday night include a battle for the drivers in the Budweiser Pure Stock Division and twin races for the drivers in the MAD Modified Division (Modified Affordable Division).

Joe Allred, III leads the way in the chase for the Budweiser Pure Stock Division championship. Allred is only eight points ahead of second-place Trey Crews, while Randy Hupp is third and Stuart Crews is fourth.

Hunter Slayton sits atop the MAD Modified Division standings, while Jimmy Humblet owns the runner-up spot.

Pit registration will begin at 1:00 p.m. Saturday. Practice for all divisions will be held from 3 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. and qualifying time trials will get underway at 5:30 p.m. Grandstand gates will open at 5 p.m. and admission will be $10 for adults and children six and under will be admitted free with a paid adult.
