Falk takes win at SBS, June 16th 2012

South Boston, Va --

C.E. Falk, III of Virginia Beach, Va. picked up his second win of the season at South Boston Speedway, his first of the track’s points season, in Saturday night’s Whelen Presents Mobil 1 Late Model 150 racing program.

Falk took the lead from Deac McCaskill on lap 146 following the next-to-last restart, and held off McCaskill in a two-lap green-flag dash to the finish to take the win. His margin of victory was .266-second, or about a car length.

Josh Oakley of Rougemont, N.C. finished third with Jeb Burton of Halifax, Va. and Ronald Hill of Rougemont, N.C. rounding out the top five finishers.

McCaskill led the first 145 laps, fending off a pair of challenges from former NASCAR national champion Peyton Sellers. Following the fourth of the race’s six caution periods, McCaskill chose the inside line for the double-file restart, with Falk starting on the outside of the front row.

The outside line worked for Falk as he surged into the top spot. Sellers’ bid for the win ended when his car spun and crashed into the second turn wall after he and Burton made contact while racing for third place.

Falk restarted on the outside line again on the final restart and fended off McCaskill, with Oakley finishing a close third.

The field of cars for the 150-lap NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Late Model Stock Car Division race featured four of the top 11 drivers in the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series national points standings.

Falk, who picked up his ninth win of the season in this race, entered the night’s action in second place in the national standings, and McCaskill was third in the national standings. South Boston Speedway points leader Matt Bowling of Ridgeway, Va., who finished seventh in the race, was fifth in the national standings coming into the event. Sellers was 11th in the national standings entering the race.

Falk averaged 66.319 mph in the race that was slowed by five caution periods that consumed 27 laps. The race had to be extended to 158 laps in order to have a two-lap green-flag run to the finish.

McCarty Snaps Willis’ Streak

Bobby McCarty of Summerfield, N.C. snapped the five-race win streak of points leader Danny Willis, Jr., of Cluster Springs, Va. by sweeping the night’s pair of 50-lap Limited Sportsman Division races.

Willis was leading the first race when a tire blew out and caused his car to spin into the turn three wall. A few laps earlier, contact between Willis and McCarty as they battled for the lead resulted in a fender rub that ultimately led to the blown tire.

Tommy Peregoy of Red Oak, Va. took the lead on the ensuing restart, but McCarty sped past him to take the lead the lead for good with 13 laps to go.

Peregoy finished second, Blake Stallings of Danville, Va., finished third, and Mike Jones of South Boston, Va. and Mike Maresca of Hannawah Falls, N.Y. rounded out the top five finishers.

McCarty started fifth in the second race, but surged past race leader Peregoy with 30 laps to go and sped to victory in the nightcap.

Peregoy, Jones, Maresca and Stallings rounded out the top five finishers.

Allred Wins Pure Stock Race

Joe Allred, III of Scottsburg, Va. won the pole and led all the way to win the 30-lap race for the Budweiser Pure Stock Division.

Allred, who scored his fifth win of the season, edged Trey Crews of Halifax, Va. by 1.222-seconds. Randy Hupp of Halifax, Va., Stuart Crews of Long Island, Va. and Eric Crews of Long Island, Va. rounded out the top five finishers.
