Southboston, Va --

Cling hangs on for first Pass South win

Landon Cling held off Preston Peltier in a four-lap dash to the finish following the race’s sixth caution to win the PASS South Super Late Model 150 Saturday night at South Boston Speedway.

Cling, of Mooresville, N.C., led a total of 106 laps, including 71 laps after taking the lead from pole sitter Ross Kenseth on lap 12.  Durham, N.C. driver Jay Fogleman led laps 84-100 before Cling passed for the lead, and Cling led again for 27 laps before Peltier passed for the lead.

The lead changed hands three more times in the final 21 laps before Cling secured his first-ever PASS South win and first win for Brad Keslowski Racing by 0.400 seconds over Peltier, with Fogleman finishing third and Winston-Salem, N.C., driver Brandon Ward and David Quackenbush of Lorton rounding out the top-five.

Kyle Grissom, a Concord, N.C., driver and points leader coming into the race finished ninth and unofficially shares the PASS South points lead with Ward heading into the July 3 race at Anderson, S.C.

Peltier won the pole with a time of 15.325 seconds and started the race in the ninth position after an inversion.

Pulliam sweeps Late Model twin bill

Lee Pulliam charged from back in the field in both races to win his third and fourth races of the season at South Boston Speedway Saturday night, winning from a ninth-place starting position in race one by 1.418 seconds over Danville’s Peyton Sellers.

Pulliam, of Semora, N.C., took the checkered flag after starting fifth in race two, this time by a 0.335-second margin over Tommy Lemons Jr. in a green-white-checkered flag finish.

Lemons, of Troy, N.C., who qualified on the pole for race one with a time of 15.946 seconds, finished third in race one, with Austin Thaxton of South Boston and Bruce Anderson of South Boston rounding out the top five in a race delayed twice by cautions.

Matt Bowling of Ridgeway finished third in race two and combined with an eighth-place finish in race one maintained his Late Model points lead over Sellers, who dropped out of race two with mechanical issues.

Jeff Oakley of Prince George and Brian Pembelton of Amelia rounded out the top-five finishers in race two, which was delayed five times by cautions.

Slayton continues domination in MAD Modifieds with sixth win

Richmond driver Hunter Slayton continued his domination of the MAD Modified Division with his sixth win in six races Saturday night.

Slayton captured his third pole of the season with a time of 17.367 seconds but elected to start at the rear of the field.

He passed Shiloh, N.C., driver Jimmy Humblett for the lead on lap 12 and led the rest of the way, with Humblett finishing second and Robert Conner of Colonial Heights and Tanner Rumberg of Beaverdam third and fourth, respectively.
