NASCAR Whelen All-American Series
at Langley Speedway - Hampton, VA

Wednesday, May 30, 2012

HAMPTON, Va. (May 30) Doubleheaders for the KeesVacations.com Modifieds and Pepsi Grand Stocks top a seven-race card this Saturday, June 2, as Langley Speedway continues its 2012 NASCAR Whelen All-American Series campaign with 4CDL.com Night presented by Thomas Nelson Community College's truck driver training program.
This weekend's feature lineup includes: Modifieds (Twin 25s); Grand Stocks (Twin 20s); Heritage Motor Co. Super Streets (40 laps); Cycle City Corp. INEX Legends (25 laps); and, Cook's Moving Service Enduros (40 laps).
Front gates swing open and afternoon practice rounds get under way at 2 p.m. A drivers meeting is scheduled for 4:15, immediately followed by time trials at 4:30. Pre-race ceremonies begin at 6:55. The first Grand Stock 20-lapper kicks off the evening's feature program shortly after 7.
Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children, 6-12. Military personnel (active-duty or retired) and seniors (60+) receive a $2 discount off the regular adult ticket price. Little Race Fans (under 6) are admitted free when accompanied by an adult. Family Packs, which include two adult and two kids tickets, are $25 a savings of $5.
Advance tickets may be purchased in the Speedway office during normal business hours or through the tracks Web site <www.langley-speedway.com>.

Winning streaks will be on the line in four of the five divisions slated for action on Saturday:
In the Modified class, Shawn Balluzzo will be gunning for his fourth win in a row. He holds a five-point lead in the current Mod standings, 78-73, over Mike Rudy. Anthony Kincaid and Todd VanGuilder rank third and fourth, while Matt Slye and Cameron Patrick are deadlocked for fifth.
Renno Marchetti IV is unbeaten in two Super Street races, scoring convincing wins in both events. He leads John Pereira by five in the latest points rundown, 52-47. Sean Calway and Larry Venable are tied for third, at 44. Behind them, Dale Parro and Rod Busitzky are tied for fifth, at 43.
Nick Smith has two wins in two INEX Legends starts, holding off defending champ Brad Hancock each time. In the standings, Smith leads Hancock by two, 52-50. Spencer Saunders, Steve Keesee and Woody Howard round out the top five.
In the Enduro division, Richard Quinn is undefeated with two runaway victories. He was up by more than half a lap at the end of the both events. Still, he has just a two-point lead in the standings over two-time runner-up Alex Floroff, 52-50. Larry Drommerhausen is third, followed by Derrick Boggess. Robert Larkin and Ryan Larson are tied for fifth.

So far, no one has been able to gain a stranglehold in the Grand Stock division. On the strength of two second- and two fourth-place finishes, Tommy Sweeney is the current points leader, six ahead of defending champ Ricky Derrick and Paul Lubno. Sweeney has accumulated 96 points to 90 for both Derrick and Lubno. Brandon Hinson is fourth, at 89, followed by Mark Frye, at 82.
Rodney Boyd leads the division with two race wins. His victories, however, were sandwiched between a pair of DNFs (did not finish), leaving him in seventh in the points rundown, 19 out of the top spot. Mark Claar, who won the season opener, was absent from the last event, on May 19, and dropped to 12th in the standings.
Derrick, meanwhile, piloted a backup ride in the season's first three races, posting one fifth- and two sixth-place runs. He rolled out his title-winning primary car on May 19 and promptly found his way to Victory Lane.

The EZ Auto in Newport News Late Model Stock Cars return next Saturday, June 9, when NASCAR action continues at Langley Speedway with St. Leo University Night.
The mammoth eight-race lineup includes: Late Models (Twin 50s); Super Streets (Twin 20s); Larry King Law Super Trucks (25 laps); Standard Welding Pro Sixes (30 laps); Enduros (40 laps); and, Rhonnda Claiborne, Realtor HRKC Pro Winged Champ Karts (20 laps).

Despite his travails over the past couple weeks, C.E. Falk slipped only one spot in the latest NASCAR Whelen All-American Series national Top 500. Anthony Anders, still looking for that first win, continues atop the rankings, followed by Nate Monteith and Matt Bowling. Falk is fourth, just ahead of Deac McCaskill.
Other Langley regulars in the Top 500 include: Greg Edwards (30th); Wes Falk (62nd); Mark Wertz (63rd); Casey Wyatt (65th); Terry Carroll (68th); Danny Edwards Jr. (102nd); Shayne Lockhart (114th); Jeff Shiflett (172nd); Duane Shreeves (184th); J.T. Jackson (282nd); Gary Weeks (339th); Nick Smith (419th); Kevin Cunningham (448th); and, Jeremy Grogg (451st).
In the Virginia state standings, Bowling eased ahead of C.E. Falk for the top spot. Former national champ Peyton Sellers is third, while Greg Edwards and Dennis Holdren complete the top five.
Wes Falk, Wyatt and Wertz are seventh, eighth and ninth, respectively, in the state rundown, while Carroll and Danny Edwards Jr. are 13th and 14th, in that order. Lockhart, fresh off his first Langley win, entered the rankings in 16th.

Looking ahead on the Langley schedule, NASCAR's K&N Pro Series East pays a return visit to the venerable Hampton speedplant on Saturday, June 23. The Visit Hampton 175, with posted awards of almost $100,000, will be the seventh event on the series' 14-race 2012 schedule.
This season's first four races have produced four different winners. Chase Elliott, son of NASCAR legend "Awesome Bill," is the current points leader and scored his first series victory on May 19 at the .875-mile Iowa Speedway. He was fifth in last year's edition of the Visit Hampton 175, which was won by Sergio Pena.
Extreme sports icon Travis Pastrana is also expected on the starting grid for the Visit Hampton 175. A relative newcomer to the NASCAR scene, he ranks 10th in the latest K&N Pro Series East standings and notched a fourth-place finish in the race at Iowa.
The series is slated for action this Saturday night on the quarter-mile bullring at Bowman Gray Stadium in Winston-Salem, N.C. From there, teams head to Gresham Motorsports Park in Jefferson, Ga., on Saturday, June 9.

A longtime member of the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series, Langley Speedway is a .395-mile, slightly-banked oval. The track is located at 11 Dale Lemonds Dr., off North Armistead Ave., in Hampton, Va.
