South Boston, Va --

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Former South Boston Speedway and NASCAR Whelen All-American Series National Champion Peyton Sellers had a lot to celebrate Memorial Day Weekend.

Sellers, from Danville, Va., became the season’s sixth different winner in the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Late Model Stock Car Division Saturday night at South Boston Speedway by sweeping the Halifax County “Powers” Business Twin 75s.

In both races, Sellers edged Lee Pulliam of Semora, N.C. in exciting battles, snapping Pulliam’s two-race win streak at South Boston Speedway. He joins Pulliam as the only repeat winners in the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Late Model Stock Car Division at South Boston Speedway this season.

Sellers took the lead from Pulliam with 11 laps to go in the first 75-lap Late Model Stock Car race and edged Pulliam by .356 second at the finish. Division points leader Matt Bowling of Ridgeway, Va., Bruce Anderson of South Boston, Va. and Austin Thaxton of Cluster Springs, Va. rounded out the top five finishers in the first race, which had a 21-car field.

Sellers started sixth in the nightcap after a drawing for inverted starting positions. Dennis Holdren of Roanoke, Va. started on the pole and led the first 39 laps before Sellers and Pulliam bulled their way past him to take the top two spots.

Pulliam battled Sellers hard for a handful of laps following a pair of caution periods, but Sellers drove away from Pulliam after the final restart with 12 laps to go and sped to a 2.351-second win.

Ronald Hill of Rougemont, N.C. finished third, with Bowling and Holdren rounding out the top five finishers.

Sellers averaged 55.304 mph in winning the first race and took the second race with an average speed of 54.005 mph.

Willis Extends Win Streak In Limited Sportsman Division Twinbill

Danny Willis Jr. of Cluster Springs, Va. extended his win streak in the Limited Sportsman Division to five races in a row by sweeping the night’s twin 50-lap Limited Sportsman Division races.

Willis has now won five of the six races run in the division thus far this season.

The defending division champion started sixth in the first 50-lap race, took the lead from Blake Stallings of Danville, Va. on the 18th lap, and drove away from his challengers over the final 22 circuits to seal the win.

Stallings finished second with Daniel Moss of Danville, Va., Caleb Davis of Thaxton, Va. and Mike Jones of South Boston, Va. rounding out the top five finishers.

With an inverted start, Willis started fourth in the second race, but needed only nine laps to speed to the front of the field.

A late caution flag with 12 laps to go closed up the field, but Willis sped away from runner-up Bobby McCarty of Summerfield, N.C. in the late-race sprint and edged McCarty by 1.272 second at the finish.

Jones, Stallings and Davis rounded out the top five finishers.

Nathan Crews Wins Pure Stock Division Race

Nathan Crews of Long Island, Va. took the lead from Trey Crews of Halifax, Va. with seven laps to go and won the night’s 30-lap Budweiser Pure Stock Division race.

His margin of victory was .499 second.

The win was the first of the season for Crews, and it made him the third different winner in the division thus far this season.

Defending division champion Joe Allred III of Scottsburg, Va. finished third with Randy Hupp of Halifax, Va. and Stuart Crews of Long Island, Va. rounding out the top five finishers.

Slayton Remains Unbeaten In MAD Modified Division

Hunter Slayton of Richmond, Va. took the lead for good with 16 laps to go and sped to a 4.622-second win over Michael Johnson of Midlothian, Va. in the 50-lap race for the MAD (Modified Affordable Division) Modified Division.

Slayton has now won all five races run in the division thus far this season.

Kyle Wood of Powhatan, Va. finished third with Tanner Rumberg of Beaverdam, Va. and Jimmy Humblet of Shiloh, N.C. rounding out the top five finishers.
