South Boston Speedway News
Halifax County “POWERS” Business Late Model Twin 75’s Saturday night at SoBo
May 24, 2012 - updated May 24th, 2012 11:12pm
Web posted by Tim Chandler

South Boston, Va --

When the green flag waves for the start of the featured attractions of the Halifax County “Powers” Business Late Model Twin 75s racing program Saturday night, Justin Johnson will be among the competitors seeking a spot in Victory Lane.

Johnson, who claimed the 2009 and 2010 NASCAR Whelen All American championships at South Boston Speedway, will be battling it out in the #54 machine out of the Frank Deiny Jr. Motorsports stables. Puryear Tank Lines and Speedway Engineering will sponsor the car.

The first of six races slated as part of the Halifax County “Powers” Business Late Model Twin 75s racing program Saturday night will get the green flag at 7 p.m.

The featured events of the night will be a pair of 75-lap events for the NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car Division.

“I’m looking forward to playing a little bit Saturday night,” Johnson said. “I’m excited about getting back out there. I hope it’s like riding a bike — hopefully, once I get behind the wheel it will all come back to me.”

Johnson said he plans on testing at America’s Hometown Track Friday in anticipation of Saturday’s action.

Lee Pulliam is the only NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car Division competitor with multiple wins this season. Pulliam has claimed victories in the past two events.

Matthew Bowling, a one-time winner this season, is currently the division’s points leader. Former South Boston Speedway and NASCAR Whelen All American Series national champion Peyton Sellers is second in the points and is followed in the top five by Dennis Holdren in third, Tommy Peregoy in fourth and Bruce Anderson in fifth.

Also highlighting Saturday’s racing action will be a pair of Limited Sportsman Division races.

Danny Willis Jr. currently owns a 14-point lead over second-place Bobby McCarty in the Limited Sportsman Division standings after scoring victories in the last three events.

Rounding out the night of racing action Saturday will be events for the Budweiser Pure Stock Division and the drivers in the touring MAD (Modified Affordable Division) Modifieds.

Joe Allred, III leads Trey Crews by 20 points in the battle for the Budweiser Pure Stock Division crown. Stuart Crews is third in the standings and is only six points out of second place.

Pit registration will begin at 1:00 p.m. Saturday. Practice for all divisions will be held from 3 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. and qualifying time trials will get underway at 5:30 p.m. Grandstand gates will open at 5 p.m. and admission will be $10 for adults and children six and under will be admitted free with a paid adult.
