Chase Pistone Heads to Florida With New Team and Fresh Outlook

Team Release

22-Year-Old Will Drive No. 83 RaceVue Entry With a Familiar Face Calling the Shots

You might think that Chase Pistone and his Doug Stringer, Inc. No.83 RaceVue team would have quite a challenge ahead of them as they prepare for this weekend's USAR Pro Cup Southern Division season opener at USA International Speedway in Lakeland, Florida. They are a new team with only a brief amount of time to get everything together for the first race of the season.

Then again, we are talking about the driver who surprised the Pro Cup world by going into Lakeland last season with another new team and won the pole for the race.

"Everything is going great," said Pistone. "We had a new team last year and we went down and sat on the pole. We have the same crew chief this year in Buggy Pletcher and that will be a plus, so it's a similar story to last season, one that we are familiar with."

David "Buggy" Pletcher will be a valuable resource for Pistone. Pletcher is not only an experienced Pro Cup crew chief, but as a former driver in the series as well.

"I have all the confidence in the world with him and that's a plus," said Pistone. "He's been to all of these racetracks and he helps me not just as a crew chief, but he helps me improve as a driver as well. He's been there and has done that and he has a lot more experience than I do."

Pistone also knows that the team faces some challenges due to the fact that the entire program only began a few short weeks ago, but he is certain that they can overcome all of them.

"Doug gave me a great opportunity," said Pistone. "It came together late, so it's still a little tough. We are still working the kinks out a little bit right now. We didn't get a chance to test. This deal came together too late for that.

"We have two new cars, but they aren't ready so we'll be bringing the oldest car that we have to Lakeland and maybe the first two races. If we can get out of those with some top-ten finishes, then once we get our best equipment, I think that we can contend for some wins. That's what the team and myself are out there to do this year."

The one that Pistone won't do, though, is make excuses. He's planning to run up front in 2006 - late start or not.

"My goals are set pretty high," said Pistone. "I want to finish in the top five of the standings and hopefully win a race. I believe we can. We have the stuff to do it. Doug Stringer is supplying the equipment that we need and Buggy Pletcher is doing a great job."

The Naturally Fresh 250 presented by Racing Electronics at USA International Speedway will take place this Saturday, Feb. 25, at 7:30pm ET. It will be televised Wednesday, March 1, at 5p.m. ET on SPEED.
