South Boston, Va --
The NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour will invade South Boston Speedway this weekend for a special night of racing, which will also feature twin 75-lappers for the NASCAR Whelen All-American Late Model Stock Car Division.
Saturday’s racing action will get cranked up at 7 p.m. The 150-lap battle for the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour will be sandwiched between the twin 75-lap events for the NASCAR Whelen All-American Late Model Stock Car Division.
The three previous events for the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour at America’s Hometown Track have produced three different winners. Only 2009 victor Andy Seuss has a shot this year to gain a second win at the track.
A total of nine drivers who have visited Victory Lane in the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour races will be competing this weekend at South Boston. Those winning drivers include L.W. Miller, George Brunnhoelzl III, Brian Loftin, Seuss, Burt Myers, Tim Brown, Jason Myers, John Smith and Frank Fleming.
Darrell Gilchrist, who scored his first career NASCAR Whelen All-American Late Model Stock Car Division last week at South Boston Speedway, will be looking to extend his winning streak in the twin 75-lap events this weekend.
Dustin Storm placed second in last week’s 150-lap race and was followed in the top five by Matt Bowling, Tommy Peregoy and Hunter Devers.
The rain date for Saturday’s racing action is Sunday, April 15.
Practice for both divisions will begin Saturday at 1:35 p.m. and will continue through 3:25 p.m.
Grandstand gates will open Saturday at 4 p.m. and qualifying time trials will begin at 4:15 p.m.
Prior to the 7 p.m. start of racing action, a Fan Appreciation Session will be held trackside, beginning at 6 p.m.
