Seuss Miller Discuss Accident

News & Notes: Emotions High In Return
Caraway Hosts Southern Mods Again
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - After an action-packed season opening race at Caraway Speedway on Saturday, the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour returns to the track for the second week in a row with the Farm Bureau Insurance 150.

While the spotlight is on defending series champion George Brunnhoelzl III, who collected his fourth victory in the past six races at Caraway, the season opener featured plenty of hard racing and hard feelings that are expected to carry over to the return visit to the .455-mile banked, paved oval.

L.W. Miller rallied back for a third-place finish after getting together with Andy Seuss in Turn 2 while racing for second place on a restart.

Seuss was uninjured, but his No. 11 Phoenix Pre-owned Chevrolet suffered major damage in the accident that also collected Frank Fleming.

Emotions were high following the incident between Seuss and Miller.

"I just got hit a ton from behind," Seuss said. "From everybody I've spoken to, (Miller's) wheels were turned right. Not shocking. You know, he used to be good, and he's hanging on now. That's fine. It's just a shame for this car. It's such a good car here."

Miller felt differently on what happened in Turn 2 between he and Seuss.

"Every restart, he was on the inside of me," said Miller, who ended up third. "(Seuss) drove into me and ran me up the racetrack. So I told my guys, 'I'm going to hold my ground.' I didn't drive up into him and run into him - when he went to chop me off, my right front was in his left rear and it sent him. I mean, he wrecked himself.
"I don't know how they can be so upset, when every restart before that whenever he was on the inside of me, he would drive into the side of me. Don't really care."

The race also featured Brandon Ward picking up a solid top-five run and Rich Kuiken Jr. making his full-time return to the tour a successful one when he finished 10th in his first race on the Tour since 2010.

Race Notes

New Faces Gain Recognition: The season-opening Spring Classic 150 featured seven rookies in the starting lineup for the highest number of Sunoco Rookie of the Year contenders in one race in nearly two years. Although he suffered mechanical problems, which forced him out of the race early, Kyle Ebersole was fastest after the first practice and showed he has the car and talent to run with the veterans.

Rookie Daniel Hemric started 13th and finished sixth to win Sunoco Rookie of the Race honors, while rookie Gary Fountain Sr., currently the second-oldest full-time competitor on the tour, collected his first top-10 finish when he came home ninth after starting 19th, which gave him the Coca-Cola Move of the Race Award.

Familiar Ground: The Farm Bureau Insurance 150 marks the second of five events for the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour scheduled at Caraway Speedway in 2012.

Brunnhoelzl Has His Ticket To Daytona: By winning the Spring Classic 150, George Brunnhoelzl III became the first NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour competitor locked into the inaugural UNOH Battle at the Beach at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway in February 2013. Each eligible race winner throughout the season from the Whelen Modified and Whelen Southern Modified Tours will earn guaranteed starting positions for the combined Whelen Modified exhibition feature on the short track at Daytona.

Quick Dividends: Veteran crew chief Grady Jeffreys Sr. and driver John Smith joined forces this season as the new pairing has already proved successful when Smith finished fifth in the season opener.

Win No. 2 Near?: After finishing a career best third in the final point standings last season, Jason Myers appears to have kept the momentum when he finished second to Brunnhoelzl on Saturday. He had arguably the fastest car on the track, making up a four-car-length deficit to Brunnhoelzl over the final two laps to almost collect his second career win on the tour.

Last Time Out: Spring Classic 150
* George Brunnhoelzl III picked up his second season-opening win in a row taking the Spring Classic 150.
* There were nine cautions in the race, just two short of the all-time record of yellows in a NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour race that was at Bowman Gray Stadium.
* Daniel Hemric won the Sunoco Rookie of the Race Award, while Gary Fountain won the Coca-Cola Move of the Race Award. John Smith improved nine positions from the season-ending race of 2011 to the season opener.

Up Next: South Boston

Following the Farm Bureau Insurance 150 at Caraway Speedway the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour will travel to the Commonwealth of Virginia for the first time this season for the South Boston 150 on Saturday, April 14. It will be the first of two visits to the state for the tour in 2012
