INEX Legends Fall Classic & NASCAR Whelen All-American Series at Langley Speedway - Hampton, VA

Preview: Legends drivers chase big payday this weekend Thursday, October 6, 2011

HAMPTON, Va. (Oct. 6) — Small cars will play a big role this Saturday, Oct. 8, when Langley Speedway plays host to the INEX Legends Classic. The featured race is a 40-lap/$2,000-to-win event for a combined field of the region's top Pro, Masters and Semi-Pro drivers. A separate 25-lapper, carrying a $1,900 purse, is planned for the Young Lions division.
In addition to the two Cycle City Corp. INEX Legends features, Saturday's lineup includes: Larry King Law Super Trucks (25 laps); EZ Auto of Newport News UCARs (25 laps); Standard Welding Pro Sixes (30 laps); CBX Modular Homes INEX Bandoleros (20 laps); Rhonnda Claiborne, Realtor HRKC Pro Winged Champ Karts (20 laps); and, Virginia Mini Cups (25 laps).
Front gates open and afternoon practice starts at 2 p.m. Time trials get under way at 4:30, following a 4:15 drivers meeting. Pre-race festivities begin at 6:55, while the INEX Bandoleros lead off the evening's feature slate shortly after 7.
Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children, 6-12. Military personnel (active-duty or retired) and seniors (60+) receive a $2 discount off the regular adult ticket price. “Little Race Fans” (under 6) are admitted free when accompanied by an adult. Family Packs, which include two adult and two kids tickets, are $25 — a savings of $5.
Advance tickets may be purchased in the Speedway office during normal business hours or through the track’s Web site — <www.langley-speedway.com>.

Twenty-four cars will make up the starting field for Saturday's Legends Classic. The top 18 will earn their places on the grid via time trials. Drivers who fail to nab a position in qualifying will butt heads in a 15-lap "Last Chance" dash. The top six from that event will transfer into positions 19-24 for the Classic. Saturday's Legends races are non-points events.

Looking for an early favorite in the Classic? Division points leader Brad Hancock is an obvious choice with three wins this season. Steve Keesee has also notched three victories, however, and enters Saturday's event on a two-race winning streak at Langley. Spencer Saunders, who trails Hancock and Keesee in the standings, won the season's first two features.

In the Super Truck division, six-time race winner Tommy Nixon holds a 20-point lead over defending champ Robbie Davis, 532-512. With two races to go, and the tiebreaker edge in his hip pocket, Nixon can wrest the '11 title from Davis with a pair of sixth-place finishes.

Up by four at the start of the night, he exited last Saturday's event with a 14-point margin over Tommy Sweeney, 324-310. The eight Champ Kart races this season have produced eight different winners. Three races remain on the schedule.
