Rolls-Royce Naval Marine Day
Sunday, September 18, 2011
HAMPTON, Va. (Sept. 18) — For a second straight day, foul weather prompted the curtailment of NASCAR Whelen All-American Series activities at Langley Speedway.
After Saturday’s rainout, the Rolls-Royce Naval Marine Night program was pushed to Sunday afternoon. Conditions were no better on Sunday, though.
The weekend washout brought the NASCAR national and state points chases to a subdued conclusion.
Ruckersville, Va.’s Philip Morris, who was on hand for Sunday’s scheduled twin Late Model features at Langley, unofficially clinched his fourth national crown.
The official final standings will be verified and released by NASCAR later this week.
Virginia-based Late Model drivers have claimed six of the last nine national titles.
In addition to Morris’ four championships (in 2006, 2008, 2009 and 2011), Mark McFarland (2003) and Peyton Sellers (2005) also nabbed titles.
